Marshall's POV:

A week had passed since our little game of finding the book.

In a nutshell, Addison won, and she got to run around like normal.

She was no longer sick.

Alongside that, Sophii had decided to take on her old form as a house cat, stationing herself next to the librarian almost all day.

The only time she wasn't next to her was when she was doing parkour.

It made me happy to see Addison healthy again.

Well, her positivity is infectious, but I'm not complaining.

However, even though I was content for now, a disturbing thought lingered in the back of my head.

We haven't heard from Tia in a while.

Edward wrote to us via letter, saying that she had lost her mind or something of the sort.

Had she gone insane? And if so, why?

Northwynd is her happy place... That wouldn't make sense at all.

Maybe there's something I don't know of.

Eh, whatever. If it doesn't affect me or Addison, I don't really care.

That makes me sound bad, but in reality, not everyone can empathize with someone as blunt as I am.

At least in my head, no one can argue with my thoughts other than myself.

"Marshie, look!" The sorceress smiled, weaving a wispy strand of Darkness between her fingers. "I did a thing!"

"Congrats, you earn a gold star," Sophii meowed, playfully batting at her counterpart's outstretched hand. "That's cool, though."

It was, to say the least, refreshing to see Addison so happy after a period of stressful times. "Where'd you get that dark magic from, though?"

"Reading, actually!" She laughed, pulling her hand back. "I enchanted myself to receive a teeny bit of magic every time I finish a book. Most of the time it's Darkness, but it's super useful regardless."

Huh... Interesting.

"So it's a renewable resource?" The shadowshifter asked, setting her paws down.

"Somewhat," The librarian replied, flipping through the pages of a book. "It replenishes itself according to how much I read. A teeny bit per chapter, and a small dose per book."

"So hypothetically, if you were to make a book with a single word in it, you could just open and close the book a bajillion times and get infinite magic?" Sophii inquired further, lying down on her back. "You should hire me to be a businesscat!"

"That's what I was thinking." I chimed in, staring at Addison. "Could it work?"

She took a moment to process our words, thoughtfully casting a glance between the two of us. "Maybe."

I acknowledged her with a simple nod. "With a little testing, Addi..."

"That maybe would be a yes."
