Chapter 8
Yao sighed before she frowned some while looking over the final pages of her latest book on her laptop. She had gotten up earlier than she had intended this morning to get this done. Her editor had reminded her that her deadline might be a few months out but with the competition coming up? She might not have the time to get to it before the deadline. Narrowing her eyes as she swept them over the last lines she muttered a little underneath her breath. However, she was so focused on finishing up her final chapter that she did not notice she was not alone anymore as she began to hum softly in the back of her throat. She did however blink some with startlement as a cup of coffee was held in front of her face causing her to snap her eyes upwards and meet amused whiskey amber brown eyes.
"You're up early" she commented softly as she accepted the coffee and gladly took a sip as her Captain took a seat beside her.
"Xiao Pang decided it would be a good idea to snore as loud as a freight train." commented back Sicheng with a dry tone and was amused as she snorted at his words. "You're up earlier than normal, everything okay?" he asked, tilting his head with eying her as she grumbled and shot her laptop a deadly look.
"Yes, I just need to get this done. It's the last chapter for my latest book. My Editor/Publisher kindly reminded me even though it's not due for another few months? I might not have time to get to it with the competition starting soon." nodded Yao as she focused back her laptop with a tilt of her head as the man glanced from her to her laptop with a curious tilt of his head.
"When did you start writing?" inquired Sicheng while making a mental note that if training progressed well, he would enforce the idea of more free days to give her more time with working on her books if that is what she wanted to do. Considering all things, she was going to have her hands full with not only the competition but also being trained as her grandfather's heiress, she was going to need something to even her out with some form of self-care or she would burn out. Therefore, since it seems she hates shopping unlike most females and since it looks like writing seemed to be the one thing she loved to do besides gaming that is? He was going to make sure she was able to do it.
"Middle school...it gave me an escape from everything my mother was forcing me into. Though, I did not start publishing anything till about 2 years ago. It was my cousin that convinced me finally to turn in a manuscript along with forcing me to take some money from him to pay for the editor/publisher and then it went from there." she answered absentmindedly not noticing the brief dark look that flashed in the man's eyes at the reminder on what she had gone through with her mother trying to turn her into perfect bride material.
"I am going to make damn sure that she never has to use it as a means to escape from anything and just do it because she loves to write." Sicheng thought with a darkened tone to his thoughts as he was still less than pleased with his girl's mother and the only thing that was preventing him from unleashing holy hell upon that woman was that his girl's Aunt and Uncle was going to handle it along with her grandfather. He was pleased though as his girl's Aunt had informed him that their blind date was set for after the second match of the season. Leaning back some into the couch, he watched as Yao went back to work with his lips twitching as she began to hum softly once more and was pleasantly surprised she could hold a tune.
