Chapter Sixty-Two

Morning came far too quickly for a group that had laughed their way through half the night. The Orchid's top floor was alive with noise again, the muffled sounds of shuffling luggage, the sharp clack of shoes, the faint rustle of uniforms being adjusted and hair being fixed. Steam curled from the coffee cart in the corner as Rui called out reminders about departure times while Lan, Wei, and Yeon oversaw with quiet amusement from the lounge.

Yao stood near the mirror, straightening her jacket, her hair tied back neatly beneath the embroidered ZGDX logo. Sicheng was beside her, his sleeves rolled to mid-forearm, calm and focused as he buttoned the last of his cuffs. The rest of the team filtered through the suite one by one, talking, joking, their energy buzzing with that pre-event mix of nerves and banter.

"Alright," Rui called, double-checking his tablet. "We head out in ten minutes. Everyone have their badges? No one's leaving anything behind this time?"

Pang patted his pockets dramatically. "Phone, wallet, dignity, all accounted for."

Yue stifled a yawn, tugging on his jacket. "Good, because after last night's... conversation, I'm not risking Aunt Wei coming after me with a shovel." That earned a few laughs, but the real trouble started when Yue's grin sharpened. "Actually, speaking of last night...."

Yao groaned instantly. "Oh no."

Yue ignored her. "I've been thinking."

"Dangerous start," Pang muttered.

"No, seriously," Yue said, expression suddenly gleeful. "Everyone's terrified of Aunt Wei, right? But honestly, I think the one who's going to be truly terrifying is going to be my Ge. Cheng's going to be a terrifying father."

The words barely left his mouth before a pillow flew across the room and smacked him square in the face.

"OW!"

Yue staggered back, pillow clutched to his chest in mock betrayal. "Who?!"

"Who do you think?" Yao said dryly, crossing her arms. "You deserved that."

Yue gaped at her. "What? I was paying him a compliment!"

"Calling him terrifying is not a compliment," she said with a sigh.

"Oh, come on," Yue whined. "You know it's true! Can you imagine him with a kid? They'll never miss curfew. Or smile. Or breathe too loudly."

Sicheng, still calm, still buttoning his cuff, spoke without looking up. "Keep talking, Yue."
