Chapter Eighty-One
Once the news of twins spread beyond the small circle that had witnessed the ultrasound, the shift in Sicheng was immediate and irreversible, because if he had been overprotective before, now he moved with a level of decisive action that left no room for debate, and within weeks Yao found herself standing at the edge of a newly completed property positioned deliberately between ZGDX and YQCB's bases, elevated slightly on the hill as though overseeing both kingdoms without belonging solely to either, the house built not merely for comfort but for control, visibility, and proximity to everything that mattered.
"You did not," Yao said slowly as she stared at the structure.
"I did," Sicheng replied calmly.
"You built an entire house."
"Yes."
"For twins."
"For our family," he corrected.
The house was expansive without being ostentatious, designed with wings that allowed privacy but central spaces large enough to gather the entire older roster without strain, and while Ming remained at his own home with Wei and their son, and Li, Yue, and Lee Kun Hyeok maintained their own place nearby that was chaotic by design, the hill house became a strange but seamless blend of chosen family under one roof.
Mia-Jia and Pang moved in with their child, grateful for the shared support system and proximity to the teams, while Lao Mao and Lao K relocated with their adopted daughter, the little girl already treating the long corridors like a racetrack and the older players like climbing structures.
"You are aware," Yao muttered one afternoon as she watched Lao Mao chase two children down the hallway, "that we have created a compound."
Sicheng glanced up from reviewing contracts. "Efficient."
The entire upper wing of the house was reserved for Yao and Sicheng, deliberately separated but not isolated, and once the nursery planning began the real battle unfolded not between teams but between aesthetics.
Lan arrived first with fabric swatches and neutral palettes, Wei followed with carefully curated children's furniture catalogs, and Jinyang entered armed with opinions.
"We are having a girl," Jinyang said pointedly as she surveyed the early design sketches.
"We are also having a boy," Yao replied.
"That does not eliminate softness," Jinyang countered.
"It eliminates pink," Yao stated flatly.
Lan attempted diplomacy. "Perhaps a subtle accent."
"There will be no frills," Yao insisted.
Wei pressed her lips together to hide a smile. "You are aware most nurseries lean toward warmth."
