Summary: What happened after Hermione read the letter 7 years ago?
------------
Among other things, she'd promised never to let him go a single day without knowing he was loved desperately; he'd promised never to put her in danger ever again in his life.
His thoughts sometimes drifted back to that day. His lowest point. He'd been in a terrible place for too long and it got the better of him. His life, a task he couldn't best on his own.
He'd snuck out of the Dursley's after sending Hedwig off and getting a nasty scratch in the encounter, and made his way into London on the Knight Bus. Under cover of darkness and crowds of muggles, he'd made it downtown to the tower bridge.
He'd made his peace, and was about ready to step off of the precipice and into his next great adventure when a pop startled him and he watched in horror as his best friend, a girl he'd barely dared to love, appeared out of the aether in front of him.
Two feet in from of him... Without anything between her and the water and concrete bulwark some two hundred feet below.
Were he not gifted with spectacular reflexes, honed by a few years of Quidditch, his life would have gone much differently than it had starting that very instant. That was the moment when he suddenly found himself on his belly with his best friend's hand clasped desperately in his as she dangled over the Thames.
Adrenaline alone had allowed him to lift her with one arm onto the top of the Tower he'd been preparing to leap from.
After a breakdown on both of their parts, tearful, raced words about depression, love, loss, dread, and guilt, she eventually explained something about using his blood gathered from Hedwig and recklessly apparating herself using it as a trace on him. It was incredibly complex magic that to this day he didn't fully understand.
Had things worked out differently he might be furious with her for taking such a risk.
But now, they were once again standing on a precipice, ready to take a leap into a great adventure. Not one of the end of a life, but of the beginning of a life.
For once, Harry and Hermione felt no weight of war, no burden of responsibility, and no worry that they weren't up to the task ahead of them.
They loved each other, and they had each other.
The war was over. They'd suffered innumerable losses, but found each other along the way.
