Hermione Granger's twenty-fourth birthday dawned crisp and clear, a rarity in early September. At the Ministry of Magic, she was already buried in paperwork, her quill scratching furiously against the parchment as she jotted down notes for her latest case. She was so engrossed in her work that she didn't notice Harry Potter standing in the doorway, a wide grin on his face.
"Hermione," Harry called, stepping into her uncharacteristically cluttered office.

"Happy birthday!"

She glanced up, startled, and then smiled. "Thanks, Harry, but I really don't have time for birthday celebrations. I've got heaps of work to do."

"Actually," Harry said, pulling out a rolled-up parchment from his pocket, "I've already taken care of that. You're officially on vacation for the next few days."

Hermione's eyes widened. "You what? Harry, I can't just take a day off. There's too much to do here!"

Harry chuckled. "Don't worry. Everything's covered. They offered you six days off, but I know that you'll be back on Monday regardless of how hard I fight. Now you have 2 hours to pack for a weekend getaway that I've been planning for months."

"I hardly believe that you'd take longer than an hour to plan anything, Harry." Hermione said.
"We've earned this. We could use a little getaway. Malfoy's traveling tonight.

"Malfoy?" Hermione's eyebrows shot up.

Harry was smiling. This might have been a present for him and he was using her birthday as an excuse to take full advantage.

The last time they saw Malfoy was their class reunion. They stayed up far too late reconnecting, drank too much, slept in too much. It was unexpected an lovely. Hermione knew what Harry was smiling about.

In the air that night, there was a moment where things could have taken a different turn. Sex. Not just her and Harry. They had already crossed that line a dozen or so times since graduation. But her, Harry, and Draco. Harry discussed the moment with her weeks after. She didn't reveal all of the details, but she admitted that it felt like that was on the table -- and she wasn't sure how to feel about it.

Hermione sighed, looking at the towering stack of documents on her desk. She had never been one to celebrate birthdays, much preferring the comfort of a good book or the satisfaction of a job well done. But the idea of a long weekend away, especially with Harry, was tempting. And if Malfoy was involved, it could mean some interesting developments in their work.

"Harry, you don't understand," Hermione began, shaking her head. "I have to finalize the new regulations for magical creature protection. The draft needs to be submitted by Monday, and I haven't even started on the amendments."

"It's alright," Harry said, leaning against her desk. "I've spoken to Neville, and he said he'll have someone else take care of it for now. You've been working non-stop, Hermione. You need this."
"And what about the report on the misuse of Muggle artifacts? I have to review it and present my findings to the Wizengamot next week."

"Dean's got it covered," Harry replied, unfazed. "He's more than capable. You trained him yourself, remember?"

Hermione opened her mouth to argue but Harry continued, "And then there's the new intern orientation. I promised I'd mentor them, and now you want me to leave them on their own?"
"Padma will handle it," Harry said with a grin. "She loves working with the newbies. Plus, she owes you a favor after your hen night."
