Harry was going to get detention if he went through with this, that much Hermione knew. No matter what she said or how much she begged him not to go he wouldn't listen to her. He was determined to see this through no matter the consequences. As much as she was determined to stop him she knew there was no getting through to him when he had his mind set on something. She might not be able to stop him but she could follow him.

She just dreaded the idea of detention.

It wouldn't be the first time.

Still, she would continue to be the buzzing voice in his ear telling him this was a terrible idea. She would make sure he didn't hear the end of it if it did go poorly. Or, rather, she would find a way to prevent it from going poorly somehow. There were a number of scenarios as to how thi would play out.

"This won't end well," Hermione said as she tried to keep up with his quick pace.

"So you keep saying," he responded.

"I'm repeating myself because it hasn't seemed to sink in just how much trouble you'll be in if you get caught," Hermione said.

"I think you mean if we get caught," he said.

They were officially entering the forbidden forest which meant one thing: there was no turning back. She was suddenly very aware of how dark it was getting.

"Yes, that's exactly what I mean, actually. If we get caught—as in if you drag me down with you over some stupid dare."

"No one asked you to come," he said, when he looked over at her he must have noticed the twinge of hurt on her face because his features softened. "I only mean it's not too late for you to turn back. I can do this on my own."

She didn't say anything. There was nothing to say. If he didn't turn back neither would she. She would never forgive herself if anything happened to him and she wasn't there to at least try to help.

They made their way further into the forest. Every little sound had Hermione flinching as if someone were following them. As if any second Professor McGonagall was going to pop out of a bush and expel them. Nothing like that happened, of course. Each sound was something different: a rodent, a spider, she was even sure she saw a unicorn at a distance.

The forbidden forest could be quite intriguing. This could be a learning experience, if she let it.

"What are we looking for, exactly?" she asked.

"Proof," he put simply. "A flower of some kind. It's blue with a wide, orange stem. It's supposed to only grow deep into the forest."

Hermione nodded. She scanned their surroundings looking for a strangely colored flower and came up with nothing. The plants all looked ordinary to her.

"How deep are we supposed to go?" she asked.

"Not very," he said. "Just deep enough."

"You shouldn't care what other people think about you, Harry," she insisted.

"I don't," he said.

"Clearly you do. Otherwise you wouldn't be..."

"I think I see it," he interrupted at once.
