Harry Potter had never felt so nervous in all of his twenty-three years of life. Confronting Voldemort proved challenging, yet the intense uneasiness caused by the slight heaviness in his cloak pocket made him doubt his decision. He was going to propose marriage to his girlfriend, and best friend, Hermione Granger tonight.
He found the ring in a little village shop when Hermione, Ron, and himself went on a trip to Romania last summer. They had a great time staying with Ron's elder brother Charlie Weasley and his assistant, who is their sister-in-law Fleur Delacour's younger sister, Gabrielle. Hermione had gone off to sight-see with the other girl while she had her attention elsewhere, Charlie took Harry and Ron down the markets.
Charlie had informed them that the only shop in the entire village, which sold jewelry, was actually the sole smithery that also crafted Dragon-Hide leathers that Charlie wore while taming dragons. The ring showcased a delicate silver band adorned with a beautiful set, small yellow gemstone. Upon returning home to their flat, Harry discovered that the stone shared the identical shade of Hermione's half-Kneazle cat, Crookshank's, brilliantly colored eyes. Harry knew that Hermione would absolutely love it.
The mirror above the basin showed Harry that his dark brown hair remained unruly even after he tried to tame it with water from the faucet. Taking a deep breath, he wiped his sweaty palms on his trousers. As Hermione sat at their table waiting for him, he felt like a total coward hiding in the loo. He grabbed a paper napkin to wipe the perspiration off the back of his neck.
They were at a fancy dinner he had organized at an upscale restaurant that had opened in Muggle London and was fully prepared to woo her into accepting his marriage proposal. He just felt the weight of the ring like a brick, mixing with the weight of his nervousness, he felt queasy. Hermione did not know how important tonight was and he could feel his knees began to quake.
Harry stared at himself directly in the mirror, his eyes traveling over his lightning shaped scar on his forehead. He recalled how it used to cause him pain whenever he saw it, but he only felt his bravery looking at it now. Just as Hermione herself gives him courage and support. His resolve strengthened and he told his reflection sternly, "You are going out there and you are going to propose to the most amazing person you know."
With that last statement, he turned on his heel and marched out of the loo. He headed straight to their table and Hermione looked so pretty under the soft-glow of the candle light. Her curls were cascading down her back and she wore a dress that was stunning. Hermione smiled widely at Harry, yet when she noticed the firm set of his mouth, her brows furrowed and she asked, "Anything wrong, Harry?"
Gulping once before, he dropped on one knee right next to her chair and grasped her small hands in his heated palms. He stumbled over his words that he had practiced for weeks as he practically shouted, "H-Hermione you are my best friend and I love you and I want you to marry me!" Hermione's warm brown eyes were wide in surprise as he was struggling for air after saying that all with one breath.
The ring was still in his cloak pocket, he released her hands to fumble with taking the box out until he successfully extracted it. Harry opened up the miniature box with shaking hands and she gasped softly as he held out the ring to her. Hermione's eyes began to water as she said sweetly, "Oh Harry!" She held out her own trembling hand as he slid the ring onto her thin finger. She uttered a soft, "Yes." He didn't react, indicating he didn't hear her at first and she said louder, "Yes, I will marry you!"
She was a blur of emotions, tears were streaming down her pink cheeks as she pressed a quick kiss on his lips then was wrapping her arms around him in a tight hug. Harry lifted her chin to kiss her tenderly. When they broke their kiss, Hermione whispered excitedly, "I love you!" He smiled happily at her and said sincerely, "I love you too, 'Mione."
