It had been weeks since Ron left them. Harry knew in his heart that Ron's leaving had a lot to do with the Horcrux, the same fucking Horcrux that was still hiding in Hermione's beaded bag. They stopped wearing it after Ron left, not wanting either of themselves to succumb to the pressure of the dark magic that Ron had. Yet... Harry also knew that Ron left on his own accord. The Horcrux just magnified his feelings and set them on fire, burning within him until he snapped and left them. He left Harry and Hermione. He left them and he didn't come back.

"We thought you knew what you were doing," Ron had yelled at him

Yeah, so did Harry. He thought he knew what he was doing yet after all this time they'd barely made any headway. They had the locket, sure, but they still had no way to get rid of it.

"Harry?" Hermione called to him from the tent. Harry sighed from where he was standing, staring into the forest, pocketed his wand, and walked inside the tent to find Hermione wringing her hands together in the kitchenette.

"What's wrong, Mione?" He could always tell when something was wrong. It was the way she couldn't stop her hands from signaling to the world that she was upset, or about to be.

"We're out of food, Harry. It's winter, there's not much I can really scavenge anymore and we need more food if we have any chance of surviving."

"Okay, so we'll go into the next muggle town. I think there's one a few miles north of us that looked big enough to have a store."

"Alright. I'm sorry, Harry. I know we said we wouldn't go into the public unless we had to, but I figure this is important."

Harry gave a small laugh. "Always such a worrier, Hermione. Yes, food is very important. Let's pack up and apparate just outside of the town, get some food, then find a new place to set up camp, yeah? Maybe somewhere we can pick up the Prophet and see what's going on in the world" They normally tried to stay as far from the wizarding world as possible, not wanting to attract attention to themselves or put themselves at further risk of capture.

Hermione nodded and began using her wand to transfigure them enough to make them each unrecognizable. She changed her hair to blonde, her eyes became green, and her nose longer and pointier. Harry's hair became a longer light auburn, his eyes a clear blue, and freckles adorned his face. In just a few minutes they were hand in hand, apparating a few miles away to just outside of a muggle seaside town. It was a quaint little town, shops lining a main street, and it was quiet, given the late evening hour.

It wasn't ideal. They actually preferred to do any of their muggle shopping during the middle of the day as it was easier to hide in a crowd. Hermione had seemed so nervous to admit to Harry that they were out of food, again, that he didn't want to cause her more stress by waiting until the next day. Honestly, he should have also known they were out of food, but he was so used to going without when he was living with the Dursley's that it didn't affect him the way it did Hermione. It had affected Ron the worst out of all of them as he'd always been used to either his mother's cooking or Hogwarts - he never had to worry about going hungry.

They gathered a basket of items that would hold them over for at least a week or so if they were careful, and Hermione Confunded the clerk into thinking they'd already paid, before they both slipped out of the store, hoods up, and went back the way they'd come. Before they made it around the corner though, a name was spoken by people near them that had both of their ears perk up.
