The morning sun filtered gently through the windows of the dining hall, casting a warm glow over the room as the Pandavas and Kunti sat together, enjoying their breakfast.
The clatter of dishes and the soft hum of conversation filled the air, creating a peaceful and familial atmosphere. Devika, Valandhara, and Draupadi moved about gracefully, serving their husbands and Kunti with smiles, making sure everyone had enough to eat.
As Draupadi handed a plate of fresh fruits to Bhima, Devika was carefully pouring milk into Yudhishthira’s cup. Everything seemed as usual until, suddenly, Devika’s hand trembled, and the jug slipped from her grasp. Before anyone could react, her eyes rolled back, and she began to collapse. Draupadi, who was closest to her, acted quickly and caught her just in time, preventing her from hitting the ground.
"Devika jiji!" Draupadi’s voice was filled with alarm as she held her sister-in-law.
The room erupted in concern. Kunti’s eyes widened in fear as she rushed to Devika’s side. “Purochan! Fetch the vaidya immediately!” she ordered, her voice trembling with urgency.
Yudhishthira, his face ashen with worry, quickly bent down and scooped Devika into his arms. “I’m taking her to our chamber,” he said, his voice calm but betraying the deep anxiety he felt. Without waiting for a response, he carried her out of the dining hall, his heart pounding in his chest.
Kunti followed closely behind, her face etched with worry. “She will be alright, Yudhishthira. She must be,” she whispered, more to herself than to him.
Reaching their chamber, Yudhishthira gently laid Devika on the bed. He knelt beside her, holding her hand and stroking her hair. “Stay with me, Devika,” he murmured, his voice soft but filled with desperation. “You’ll be fine.”
Moments later, the vaidya arrived, her expression serious. “My lord, I must ask you to leave the room while I examine the princess,” she said gently.
Yudhishthira hesitated, unwilling to leave Devika’s side. Kunti placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder. “Let the vaidya do her work, my son. She’ll be fine,” she urged him, though her own eyes were clouded with worry.
Reluctantly, Yudhishthira stood up and left the room with the others, the door closing behind him. The wait was agonizing. The Pandavas paced back and forth, their minds racing with concern and questions.
A little while later, the door to the chamber creaked open. Valandhara and Draupadi stepped out, their faces beaming with bright smiles. The worry in the air dissipated instantly as Yudhishthira’s heart lifted with hope.
“What happened? Is she alright?” he asked, his voice a mix of concern and relief.
Draupadi’s smile widened. “You should go inside, Bhrata Yudhishthira. Devika jiji has something to tell you,” she said, her tone light but full of excitement.
