The Long Game

Y/n POV

Yaz, Sammy, Kenji, Brooklyn and I kept sitting with each other while looking at the descending sun before Kenji and Brooklyn were heard walking away with Sammy. Yaz stood up while looking out toward the plane that was getting further and further away before I stood up and looked at her.

Y/n: Hey, we'll make it home. I promise you that and I will live by that promise even if it kills me.

Yaz: If you say it enough times it'll come true, right?

She turns to me, still upset so I wrap my arm around her shoulders and we start walking back to the others. I felt her lean on me while letting out a heavy and shaky sigh and I understood her wish to go home, I would give anything just to hug my dad again. We came to the airlock where we found Brooklyn, Kenji and Sammy waiting as it opened to so Mae, Darius and Ben running out.

Mae: The plane left without you? I'm so sorry. I don't understand what's going on here but you have my word I'll get you off this island somehow.

Darius: No, we're not leaving.

I glare daggers at Darius and I felt a rush of anger and annoyance run through my system but I held it together so I didn't frighten the others and make Yaz's current state worse.

Darius: Obviously, this isn't what we wanted. Like, at all. But we can't quit now. Mantah Corp doesn't care if they're hurting their dinosaurs. And Mae, you can't protect them all on your own. We have to stay until we fix this, however long it takes.

I look at Yaz and see she was even more disheartened and sad than before while she still leant against my shoulder.

Yaz: Sure. Whatever you say...

Mae: Let's get to work then. We've got to get Pierce back to the desert biome And, if the plane's gone, that means the new dinosaur food has already been unloaded.

The door opened and we all started walking to it, Yaz and I were disheartened but I was more angry at Darius for wanting to care for the dinosaurs more than seeing his own mother again. The group were coming up with a plan until we can stop Mantah Corp but thankfully, Sammy decided to pull Yaz and I out of the plan.

Sammy: Y'all, Y/n, Yaz and I are pretty exhausted and we could use with a break for a while.

Darius: Oh, ok. We'll be in the desert biome if you need us.

The group then walked into the tunnels and Yaz and I both turn to Sammy.

Y/n: Thanks for that. I just... want a break.

Yaz: We both need one.

Yaz, Sammy and I start walking through the tunnels together in the direction of the forest biome to get some rest in the cave.

Sammy: So, Y/n. You haven't really spoken much about your dad during our time. What's he like?

Y/n: I guess I can talk about him to try lighten the mood. My dad's a great guy, ex-navy SEAL turned raptor trainer after InGen gave him a job opportunity which he took. Since my mum already worked at Jurassic World, my dad decided to move there with me where we then lived in a bungalow. Usually when we had all finished our jobs, whether that be raptor training or feeding the T-rex, we all used to play cards together and occasionally go out for late night walks.

Yaz: When Brooklyn was telling us about him he sounded tough and scary.

Y/n: When you get to know him he's an incredibly nice and caring person.

The three of us continued talking about our families to pass the time on the walk until we finally made it to the forest biome. It didn't sound like the rexes were on the move so we walked to the cave but when we walked through the door, we saw the mangled body of a BRAD on the ground that sent shivers up my spine.
