Y/n POV

Zia and Franklin explained the situation and brought us down to the subbasement where we all saw hydrogen gas leaking down and into the containment cages. My eyes widen and I stare in horror, my face practically up against the glass as all the different dinosaurs cry out in fear at the gas, clearly sensing it means death.

Claire: They're all dying...

Zia: The blast damaged the ventilation system. We did everything we could.

I turn to Claire walking and looking at the control desk.

Claire: I can open the gates from here!

She starts tapping at the screens and unlocking the gates, allowing the dinosaurs to move freely.

Owen: Claire, be careful. We're not on an island anymore.

Slowly, all different types of dinosaurs pile up in the corridor, bellowing, roaring and piling up infront of the main door as more hydrogen gas leaks into the containment area. Carnivores and herbivores of all sizes wait in fear at the door, wanting to escape and live. Once all the cages were open, Claire went to the main button to open the gates and press it to release the dinosaurs but her hand hovered in hesitation.

Owen: Claire, you press that button and there is no going back.

Claire: We can't let them die...

I felt tears welling in my eyes as I watched the animals crying out for help, pushing and shoving to try live but the door remains shut. I turn over to Claire and see her shut the glass cover of the main button and walk over to look at the dinosaurs with dad. I see Franklin, Maisie and Zia also watch the animals from next to me but I step back as the tears start falling. I remember something that I said back on Isla Nublar when the Scorpiouses were alive, something when we found that baby Brachiosaurus alone.

Y/n: *flashback* Life's worth protecting. Especially the lives of the dinosaurs.

I then take a step closer toward the button as the calls of the distressed dinosaurs echoed out. I take another step and another flashback hits me, one of where I was in my parents' bed on Nublar in the old bungalow, laying with my mother.

Iris: *flashback* You know what I've always wanted, Y/n?

Young Y/n: *flashback* What is it?

Iris: *flashback* For dinosaurs and people to co-exist. To thrive with one another. They're incredible creatures and I wish that everyone saw them that way.

Young Y/n: *flashback* I do, mum. I see them that way.

The voices echoed in my head while more tears gently made their way down my face. Before I knew it, I was standing directly infront of the closed button on the control desk. I slowly lift the cover and my hand hovers over the button. Like Claire, I hesitate, but my decision was made. I press down on the button, causing the lights to go from red to green on the gate as they start opening for the dinosaurs while everyone turned to look at me.

Y/n: I had to... Life is worth protecting, even theirs. It's what mum would have done.

Dad and Claire look at each other before we all look toward the dinosaurs who were all escaping through the gate into the wider world, onto the mainland. I felt a sense of relief and satisfaction wash over me at what I have done but a part of me knows what I did was a dangerous mistake. I didn't care, I just acted on my past on Nublar, my memories with my mother and what I felt was right.

We all go up the elevator and out to the main doors of the estate where we all saw Y/n/Omega and the other Indoraptor walk out as raptor pack emerged from the pushes and ran over to the black raptor. They all nuzzled their heads against him before turning to the white Indoraptor and tilted their heads, curiously.
