Yoongi and Hoseok have been dating for two years. Unfortunately for them, half of that time has been spent without each other due to Hoseok enlisting in the military.
It was one of the downsides that Yoongi saw to their possible relationship back then, before they ever even confessed their feelings. Yoongi had already enlisted and completed his term, while Hoseok was younger than him and hadn't gone through with it.
They've known each other for almost four years now. Half of that time, they were too busy pining over each other to actually be together. Hoseok had a mutual friend with Yoongi and they'd quickly become friends as well, silently wishing they could be together.
Yoongi insisted to himself that it was too good to be true—there was no way a hot, funny, yet adorable alpha like Hoseok could ever want him. And as for Hoseok, he thought that Yoongi was the cutest omega he'd ever met, always so shy with affection and unwilling to flirt back despite how sweet his scent smelled of wonderful tangerines because he clearly liked to be flirted with.
But Yoongi was also afraid of this.
Hoseok enlisted a few months after they became official. Yoongi promised to wait for him to come back and promised to visit and call him as much as he could while he was away. However, short visits and calls don't extinguish the loneliness and anxiety in Yoongi's heart. He wants his alpha back in his arms immediately. He's served enough. He deserves to be in Yoongi's bed, in his nest where he belongs, and nowhere else.
Something much worse comes along that makes Yoongi miss him even more—his unfairly aggressive heat. Yoongi only goes into heat every few months and he's usually able to suppress the feeling even with Hoseok being away. But knowing that Hoseok is only a sliver of an inch away from leaving the military, Yoongi's wolf is fierce and agonizing, calling out for their mate.
It starts out slow. The telltale signs of his heat eases in, from the urges to make a nest, the constant desire to mate, and the little cramps he gets in his lower back almost as if he should be presenting and stretching it out, but instead he works tirelessly at the hotel he's been working at for the past few months, making breakfast each morning for the residents staying at night.
One morning he wakes up with a fever, which isn't exactly common in this stage of his heat. He's not even close to time yet. He shouldn't be going into heat until at least next week and his fevers don't normally come until midway through when he's at his peak.
