Three years later
"Laura! Do not throw the leaves at your sister."
Laura smiled at me as I stood in the stone hallway, looking out at her. I gave her a stern look, making her walk her sister over.
"You play nice Laura Rogers."
"Yeah." She said. She handed me Martha.
"Thank you." I said. "Let's go find your father."
We walked down the hallway, finding my husband. He was walking down the hallway with Matthew.
"Uncle Matthew!" Laura said. Steve gave me a look.
"It is as if I am not even here." He said as he took Martha. I smiled.
"Sorry love. We know where her priorities lie."
He smiled. I kissed his cheek. He gave me a smile back.
So we did not have a boy. But we were still happy as ever. Our girls could very easily run this kingdom. We would just find them well behaved men. That was our goal.
Laura looked at her uncle before looking at us. "Hello." She said and giggled.
"I swear it is as if you do not care for us. You only care about your dear uncle. Whom by the way has two children of his own." Steve said playfully to his daughter, taking a small jab at his brother.
Matthew smiled. "This is true Laura. But I still love you just the same. Do not get all fussy little brother. She only loves me."
I smiled at Steve. He shook his head, kissing Martha's little head.
Laura had turned into a spitting image of Steve. Her blonde hair and blue eyes. But Martha had more of my traits. She had darker curly hair and hazel eyes. Both of the girls were already angels sent from the heavens. They each had rosy cheeks and adorable little smiles. They were truly such gifts.
Eventually Steve took Laura. It was dinner, and we were to have some. As two kids came around, the less formal it had become. Matthew and his family ate with us, as well as Sarah. Natasha and Bucky were also in attendance.
We all met in the dining hall. Martha was on my lap as I helped feed her little bites of things. She was already two. She was so shy. Steve always reminded me that we were the same soul.
I watched as my youngest glanced at everyone around her as she ate. Her grandmother gave her a smile. Her little cheeks turned red, her face looking up at mine. I gave Sarah a smirk.
"She will never get rid of that timid state." I said. She hummed.
"I knew a young lady just like that." She said. Steve nudged me with his foot. I gave him a look.
He smiled.
In the last three winters, Steve and I had grown closer than ever. I had gone through my second scare of dying, and at this point we both knew that we could not take one another for granted.
Martha was born a month after I had fallen ill. She was healthy as could be. We were incredibly grateful.
Steve had started putting his family over his kingdom, which was not easy. He loved Brooklyn, but he had so much love for us as well. And he learned to balance life beautifully.
Laura was already learning to read and write. She was so bright. Of course, Sarah and Steve did most of the teachings. I still was not as skilled as I had wished.
Laura sat next to Steve at the table. She had great leadership qualities already. Though she had some trouble sitting still and being kind to her sister, she had already shown traits of becoming a wonderful queen.
Steve had her with sometimes for small tasks. She always wanted to see what he was up to. Or if Bucky or Matthew were around, she would follow them as well. Martha was younger, but she still chose to stay with me. She was attached. She loved Sarah and Penelope, as well as her cousins.
But in reality, I was just overjoyed that I had such healthy, well behaved children. And a loving husband that was present for his daughters. And a strong family beside me. Looking back, I would have never even imagined being a royal, let alone a mother and queen. All I could describe myself as at one point was a maid. Now I have a multitude of titles.
I had trusted Steve. He had a plan, and all I had to do was wait for the signal. He sent my life soaring. All because he loved me. And I was so happy to be loved by him. And I loved him to the ends of the earth.
So long live the story that my family will leave.
The end.
Thank you so much for all of the love on this book! I hope you all enjoyed it just as much as I enjoyed writing it!!
