Tami's POV
" Mom, you should have called me. "
" Leave it, just pack a bag for 2 days, we are going to Surat. " She said.
" All of a sudden, Mom? "
" Manik is going back to Surat, so I suggested that he take you there, but your dad said that it was so long since we went there, so let's just go. You will love the place. " Mom said and I did pack the bag and after about an hour we were flying to Surat.
We reached there in about two hours and I was impressed to see the traditional haveli. It was huge and beautiful. An old man and a few other helpers were standing there in a neat line to greet us. Mom introduced me to the old man, he was Maharaj Ji, who was the main chef there, and others as well.
Once I went in, I was impressed with the traditional setting of the haveli.
" Mom, this is beautiful. "
" It is and Megha did the interiors to make it even more beautiful. " Dad said.
" Mom, you are full of talents. " I said and she smiled.
" Manik, call Mihir and tell him to come home, but don't tell him that we have also come. " Mom said.
She showed me the whole haveli and got my bag kept in Mihir's room.
After about half an hour, Mihir came back and was surprised to see his parents and shocked to see me.
" What are all of you doing here? " He asked but I knew the question was for me.
" We took a mini trip, as it is, we should have brought Tami here, she should know our roots and the original home of the Shah family. " Dad said.
" By the way, Mihir, did you see the pictures I sent you? " Mom asked.
" Hmm. "
" Hmm? Just hmm? How did you like them? Wasn't she looking very pretty? "
" Yes, she did. " He said without looking at me.
" We all missed you there, everyone was asking about you. " Mom said.
" Well, the pictures were telling a different story. She looked too happy to have missed me. "
" Well, it was my sister's wedding, I was supposed to be happy. " I said.
" Of course, this time she was not getting married to me, so obviously you were happy... " He said sarcastically, it seemed he had forgotten that we were not alone.
" Mihir!! Behave yourself! Is that the way to talk to your wife? You just got married and still, you came here alone for almost a week, and now that she is here, you are being rude? Now you must show her the places around. " Dad said.
" Dad, I am very busy learning the business at the moment, I can't do that. "
" You need to do that, you have joined the business, that is more than enough for now. You can learn it in Delhi as well. Since you got married to her, you need to spend some time with her. And let me warn you, it is not a suggestion, but an order. " Dad said firmly.
" As you say, Dad, your order will be followed. " He said and went to his room to get freshen up. Mom asked me to go to the room. I was feeling awkward but she insisted, so I had to go.
I knocked at the door and saw him stiffen.
" Why did you come here? Don't you know why I came here? Why can't you let me live peacefully? "
" Mom asked me to come here. " I replied
" But you could have refused. "
" How could I, what would have I said if she had asked me why can't I come here? If you don't want us to stay here, tell your parents, I didn't bring them here, it was the other way around. " I said and he made a face.
" Anyway, be my uninvited guest. Just don't expect me to be very hospitable. I am not interested in playing an enthusiastic host to you. " He said.
" Thanks, I don't expect anything from you, I am just playing my part as a wife till we are married. " I said in the same rude tine he was using.
" How convenient!! You just want to show how good and sweet you are, you tried your level best to make the marriage work so that all blame goes to me when we get the divorce. Moreover, you are hoping that I may fall for your charm. Right? "
" Wrong!! But you are free to think what you want. " I retorted.
" I know your tactics, and let me tell you, you will never succeed. The only woman I ever loved was your sister, I never looked at any other woman, so why would I do it now, I hate you for what you did. " He said with disgust and I almost lost my temper.
" If you hate to see my face so much, why do you want to wait for 9 months? Divorce me right away, and you will get rid of me, but since you can't do it because of your selfish reasons, I suggest that you behave yourself with me, as I will not compromise on my self-respect. " I said as I was hurt by his rude behavior.
