Tami's POV
The sunlight was falling on me and I stirred, my eyelashes fluttering as I slowly woke up. I blinked a few times, my eyes adjusting to the light, and then looked up at Mihir. For a heartbeat, we just stared at each other, the world outside our little bubble seeming to fade away. I realized that I was sleeping in his arms.
"Good morning," I said softly, my voice still husky from sleep. I glanced at Mihir, then away, feeling my cheeks flush with embarrassment. Why did waking up in his arms feel so natural yet so awkward?
"Good morning," he replied, his voice steady but with an undertone of something I couldn’t quite place. His presence, so close and intimate, made my heart pound.
"Mihir? What... where are we?" I asked, still trying to make sense of my surroundings.
"In your dad's cabin. He insisted we stay here since it was late," he explained.
"Oh," I said, sitting up and running a hand through my hair. "I must have fallen asleep."
"You did. You were exhausted," he said,
"But why are you lying here?" I asked.
"Your dad's orders," he said. "He thought I needed some rest too."
Then my cheeks flushed a delicate pink, and I quickly untangled myself, sitting up and smoothing my hair with nervous fingers.
I bit my lip, trying to steady my nerves. "I... I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "I didn't mean to... I mean, I didn't realize I was... you know."
"It's okay," he said, trying to reassure me despite the awkwardness. "You were asleep. It happens."
I nodded, but the tension between us remained. It was as if there was an invisible thread connecting us, pulling us closer together despite the awkwardness. I wanted to break the silence, to say something that would ease the tension, but my mind was a jumble of conflicting thoughts.
At that moment, the door creaked open, and Dad peeked in, a mischievous grin on his face.
Oh, no! We were still in bed together. My face became red, and we were embarrassed as hell.
"Good morning, lovebirds. How did you sleep?" he asked with a naughty smile.
"Dad!" I exclaimed, blushing furiously.
"Just came in to get a file I was reading here earlier," he said innocently. "And to remind you both that there's a world outside this room. Patients to see, and lives to save. Tami, time to report to your senior doctor. You will find some clothes here. Your mom keeps some pairs here."
"Yes, Dad," I said, smiling awkwardly as Mihir and I untangled ourselves and got up.
Dad winked at Mihir. "Take care of my daughter, Mihir. And don't forget, she is your wife now, you don't have to feel guilty or ashamed if someone catches you carrying her in your arms. It is fine."
Mihir looked embarrassed, and I felt my cheeks flush even more. "I will, sir," Mihir said.
Oh my god, what happened last night??
As Dad left, I turned to Mihir, wrapping my arms around myself as if to shield myself from the vulnerability of the moment. "I should... I should get ready," I said quietly.
Mihir watched me for a moment, then nodded. "Yeah, me too."
I walked towards the bathroom, feeling his gaze on me the entire time. As I disappeared behind the door, I let out a breath I hadn't realized I was holding. What was happening between us? Why did his presence affect me so much?
I quickly freshened up and changed into the clothes Mom had left here. When I emerged from the bathroom, my hair was damp and my cheeks still flushed, I saw Mihir staring out the window, lost in thought.
"Sorry for what Dad said. By the way, Mihir, what were you doing carrying me when my dad walked in on you?" I asked with a shy smile.
Mihir looked embarrassed. "Oh! When I came back, you were sleeping in a sitting position. I was about to lay you down without waking you up. You looked too peaceful to disturb," he said.
"I'm sorry about last night and this morning," I said again, my voice more composed. "I didn't mean to make things awkward."
"It's not your fault. You were sleeping," he said, turning to face me. I nodded, feeling a bit relieved.
