Mihir's POV
My phone rang again, pulling me from my reverie. It was Vihan. Something in the pit of my stomach told me this wasn’t a social call. I picked up, my voice betraying my impatience.
“Mihir, where are you?” Vihan’s voice was urgent, strained. “Your dad has been admitted to the hospital. He had a massive heart attack.”
The world seemed to stop. The coffee cup slipped from my hand, shattering on the floor. “What? How? Is he... is he okay?” My voice trembled with fear.
“He is critical. You need to get here immediately.”
I sprang to my feet, my heart pounding as I rushed to my car. The drive to the hospital was a blur, my mind a whirlwind of fear and regret. How could this have happened? My father, the strongest man I knew, lying in a hospital bed fighting for his life. And here I was, caught up in petty revenge and marital strife.
As I navigated through traffic, memories of my father flooded my mind. He had always been there for me, guiding me with wisdom and love. The thought of losing him was unbearable. I had to get to the hospital, to be by his side, to make sure he was alright.
When I arrived at the hospital, I rushed through the corridors to the ICU. I saw Tami standing there with her parents. I was about to ask them when Vihan came out. He told me, his face grave. “He’s stable, but the next 24 hours are critical. We're doing everything we can.”
I nodded, barely able to speak. “Can I see him?”
Only once we shift him to the room. " He said.
We waited there, and Tami's parents kept standing there with us. Aunty asked me to call Mahi. Nodding, I called Mahi and told her about Dad, she started crying immediately and I had to calm her down.
Within half an hour they came running and Rahul uncle followed them. Mahi was crying bitterly I held her in my arms and calmed her down.
" How did all this happen?" Mahi asked.
" I don't know, I was in the office waiting for him to come, he was having breakfast with her when I came to the office. I was wondering why he didn't come to the office till that time. " I said glaring at Tami.
" Tami?? What happened all of a sudden? " Mahi asked her.
" We were having breakfast and he decided to take a leave all of a sudden. just then........... I saw his condition and brought him here. " She explained everything.
" What could have happened in such a short time? " Mahi asked.
" Who came to meet him? " I asked. But she didn't say anything, but looked very uncomfortable.
" Say something!! " I almost yelled.
" I asked the servants and they said that the lawyer had come to meet him with some papers. " She said looking at me.
What?? Shit!! The lawyer went there with divorce papers while Dad was there.
" Lawyer?? What for? " Mahi asked. She looked at me with pain in her eyes.
I wanted to see her react but I didn't expect this to happen. I wanted her to see the reality and forget about trying to get things right between us. I wanted her to know that there was just no hope for her that she would get me.
But I had not expected that Dad would see the papers instead.
" I don't know. I had gone to get ready for the college. When I saw he was clutching his chest and he had some legal papers in his other hand. " She said and started crying.
" What were those papers about? " Rahul uncle asked. She was sobbing by now. Siddh gave her a glass of water to drink but she shook her head.
" Tami? What were those papers? " Ron asked. She looked at me and I was sure that she saw the divorce papers.
" Tami, beta... What were those papers? " Her Dad asked caressing her head as she was crying by now.
Shit!! Now she will tell everything to all of them and they all will hate me for that.
