Confessions of an Ex-Lover Boy | Carlos Sainz

Carlos Sainz was a class act lover boy who wore his emotions on his sleeve. He loved with every fiber of his being, sometimes even too much. He loved love. He loved being in love. He loved being loved. 

He loved his family. 

He loved his team.

He loved his fans.

He loved his girlfriend.

But did Carlos love himself? Every time Carlos loved too much or too hard, he burned himself. Always trailing too close to the burning epicenter of what love was. He was slowly loosing confidence in himself.

The pressure of living up to his fathers success.

The betrayal of loosing his Ferrari seat next season.

The fan comparing him to Charles.

His ex leaving him for someone else.

The harsh reality of staring in the mirror, not knowing what to think anymore. Carlos loved, only to be long forgotten in the end. The sunshine that once shone on his heart dimmed. So what did he do? He wrapped a thorn wire around his heart. He vowed that no one would see Carlos Sainz give his heart to anyone or anything else ever again.

Elena entered Maranello headquarters for the first time with a bright smile on her face, she was ready for this. The big red letters on the front door were historical and intimating but this was everything she had worked for. She had recently applied for a performance coach open position, and she got it.

Elena was unsure if she would be assigned to the overall team or one of the drivers, but nonetheless was excited for this new chapter. While getting her masters, she was the top of her class, so it was no surprised Ferrari had said 'yes' within 15 minutes of her interview.

 "Welcome Elena, we're so glad to have you here with us!" she was greeted by Mario, her manager. He took her around the campus, giving her a tour of one of the most famous team headquarters in F1. She knew she wouldn't be there often, as she'd be traveling to races with the team.

"So, originally you had been hired as a general performance trainer for the engineering team, however one of our drivers just parted ways with his coach, so you'll be assigned to Carlos Sainz. He will be driving with us for the 2024 season and then we can discuss your next assignment, is that okay?"

Elena's heart skipped a beat. She would be the performance coach of an F1 driver, Carlos Sainz... She tried to hide her excitement and cooly responding, "Yes that's no problem."

Mario clapped his hands together in delight, "excellent, let me introduce you to our two drivers."

"Mario, just out of curiosity, why did Carlos part ways with his coach right as the season is beginning?"

Elena noticed how Mario got a bit nervous with her question. She had a bit of an idea herself, no stranger to the rumors of Carlos' recent behavior. She never wanted to believe tabloids or social media, but she found herself sometimes briefly reading them. 

"Um...Carlos and his last trainer had a slight falling out. Nothing serious" he assured. For some reason Elena didn't believe him, but she didn't let that deter her. She worked her entire life to be here and she wasn't going to let anyone stand in her way.
