Preface

Beatrice "Bea" Horner, at 20 years old, is freshly out of university with a degree in mechanical engineering. Growing up in the world of racing, she was no stranger to the rush and thrill of F1. Yet, despite her father's deep involvement in the sport, Bea was always kept on the sidelines, never having attended a race in person. Her father had kept her away from the cutthroat paddock life, wanting her to have a more balanced upbringing away from the spotlight and high pressure world he dealt every day.

Throughout her childhood, she watched her father balance the intense world of F1 with being a dedicated father. Despite his demanding role, he made time to support her curiosity about cars. Bea grew up with a curiosity and a passion for understanding how things work. Her love for engineering wasn't a surprise to those who knew her, she'd always been the one to take apart broken gadgets around the house just to see if she could put them back together.

Yet, she wasn't certain she wanted to follow in her father's footsteps into the world of F1. After graduating, Bea found herself at a crossroads, unsure whether she wanted to use her skills in the racing world or find her own path outside of the sport that had defined much of her upbringing.

Recognizing her uncertainty, her father proposed a deal, she would join him the year while she figured out her next steps, experiencing the world he had always kept her somewhat shielded from. Bea agreed, seeing it as an opportunity to better understand the sport that had captivated her father for so long. Besides, it was a chance to spend time with him before fully stepping into adulthood.

Despite her father's hope that she might fall in love with F1 enough to consider working within the team, Bea's innocence set her apart from the world she was about to step into. She had never been in the paddock before, her university studies and the desire for a normal life had always kept her distant from the glitz, glamour, and scrutiny.

Charles Leclerc, now 28, had finally reached the pinnacle of his career, winning his first Championship with Ferrari. It had been a long and unpredictable journey, filled with disappointments and relentless determination. But now, after years of chasing the dream, he had done it. The weight of expectation had finally lifted, replaced by the satisfaction of being the world's best.
