"It's going to be fine, my amor," Franco whispered. He didn't need to look at me to know what I was thinking. His voice was calm and steady, despite me being an anxious mess.

I looked at him, my boyfriend of ten months. He was as calm as ever and I wished I could borrow even an ounce of his confidence.

"What if they don't like you?" I blurted out,  before I could stop it. "What if they think you're too-"

Franco turned his head, raising an eyebrow at me. "Too what?"

"Perfect," I sighed, looking away as my cheeks turned bright red.

He laughed. "I think I can handle that."

I groaned, resting my head against the window of the taxi. "I just want everything to go well. Christmas Eve is a big deal for my family and this is the first time they're meeting you. It's..."

Franco reached over, placing his hand gently on my thigh. "Ruby, I'll be myself. That's all I can be, right? And if they love you and I know they do, then they'll trust your judgment."

"You're too good at this," I muttered, leaning into his touch.

He turned to me fully now. "I just love you, that's all."

Before I could respond, the taxi slowed to a stop bringing us right to the front porch of my childhood home. My heart raced as I stared at the familiar house, covered in Christmas lights. Franco pressed a kiss to my cheek, opening the car door for us.

"You ready?" he asked.

"I guess so."

He smiled, giving my thigh one last squeeze before opening the door and stepping out into to grab out bags. I stayed in the car for a second longer, watching as his entire demeanor shifted.

All of a sudden he became a little more reserved, shy almost. He looked back at me, catching my eye through the windshield. I offered him an encouraging smile. He nodded, but I could tell he wasn't entirely convinced.

As I stepped out and joined him, I slipped my arm through his. "Hey," I whispered, giving his hand a reassuring squeeze. "They're going to love you. Just...don't let my dad's 'interrogation face' intimidate you. He does it to everyone."

"Interrogation face? Great. I wasn't nervous before, but now..." His voice trailed off, and I couldn't help but laugh.

My parents had gone all out, as usual. Wreaths hung on every window, Christmas lighted wrapped around the roof and cute little decorations sat on the porch. My mom's touch was everywhere and it made me smile despite my nerves.

Franco held my hand firmly as I reached to ring the doorbell. The door swung open before I could ring the bell and there stood my mom, grinning from ear to ear. She wore a red sweater covered in tiny reindeer and a green Santa hat.

"Ruby! Darling!! Oh my god i've missed you so much," she squealed, pulling me into a big hug.. She pulled back and turned to Franco with wide eyes. "And you must be Franco!"

"Hello there, it's a pleasure to meet you," Franco said, offering her a sweet smile. He reached out for a handshake, but my Mom pulled him into a hug instead.
