Done in reader's POV.
------------------------------------------I stood in front of the mirror, fixing the hem of Kimi's shirt as he fidgeted impatiently, rolling his eyes dramatically like only a seven year old could.
"Mum, come on! I don't need you to help me anymore," he yelled, trying to wriggle out of my grasp.
I laughed, brushing a strand of his messy curly hair back. "You'll always need me," I teased, leaning in to plant a kiss on his cheek.
He groaned in protest, scrunching up his face and wiping it off like he did every time I dared to kiss him. "Mum! I'm too old for that!"
I couldn't help but laugh again, smoothing out the shirt he was wearing, a cute little polo with the Ferrari logo embroidered on the chest, matching the one I had laid out for myself.
"Too old? You're still my little man," I said, fixing the collar. I grabbed the small Ferrari cap from the bed and plopped it onto his head, making sure it sat just right. He adjusted it himself afterward, of course, with all the seriousness of a professional driver getting ready for race day.
I had to bite my lip to hide my smirk as I watched him, trying to be all grown up. "Perfect," I said, stepping back to admire my handiwork. Kimi looked up at me with a mix of pride and annoyance, but I could tell he was excited.
"We're going to be late, Mum," he huffed, crossing his arms.
"Alright, alright, Mr. Impatient," I said, grabbing my bag and double checking I had everything before heading for the door.
"Let's go cheer on the Ferrari, shall we?" Kimi's face lit up at that as he sprinted toward the elevator. I followed after him, my heart full, knowing that no matter how fast he grew up, he'd always be my little boy.
As we had arrived to the gates, I glanced down at the two tickets in my hand, the bold "Paddock Pass" written across them, still unable to believe this was happening. It had been years since I'd set foot in a F1 paddock. I wasn't sure how I felt about being so close to it all again. Racing had once been everything to me, but I left that life behind a long time ago. Still, when these tickets landed on my desk through work, I couldn't bring myself to say no, especially not with Kimi being such a huge Ferrari fan.
My little man was bouncing with excitement beside me, his eyes lighting up every time we passed a fan wearing red. For him, this was a dream come true. How could I deny him this? Silverstone was practically in our backyard, and I knew how much he'd love the experience. But me? I had mixed feelings. There were too many memories tied to racing. Too many people I'd rather avoid. I just hoped we could get through the weekend without bumping into anyone from my past. The chances were slim, but the thought of running into someone familiar sent a nervous flutter through my chest.
I took a deep breath and glanced over at Kimi, who was pulling his Ferrari cap lower over his head. That was why I was doing this. Not for me. For him. He'd been talking about the Grand Prix for weeks, and there was no way I could take this away from him.
He didn't know the full story. Not yet. He knew I had some connection to the world of racing, but I'd always kept it vague, letting the details blur into the background. He didn't know about the life I used to lead, or why I walked away. And as far as I was concerned, he didn't need to.
"Do you think we'll get to see the Ferrari drivers up close, mum?" Kimi asked, eyes wide with hope.
I smiled. "Maybe. We've got some pretty special passes, after all."
