I entered the paddock, already 15 minutes late. The traffic was insane this morning getting into the area, due to security measures. I didn't even have time to grab a coffee before my 9am meeting. Spa was one of my least favorite tracks on the grid, mainly because of the tight security getting in and out of the paddock, as well as the horrible weather.

I swiped my badge through and speed walked over to the offices. It was lightly drizzling outside, and my hair was bound to get messed up. I was one of twenty private doctors working for the FIA, traveling to every race in the event of any medical necessity. Ten of us were dedicated to staff and personnel, while the other ten of us were dedicated to the drivers. I was specifically assigned to Ferrari and McLaren, which is where my boyfriend and I met. Yeah it feels weird to say 'I'm dating Charles Lecerlc.'

I sent Charles a quick text letting him know I finally made it to the paddock and was on my way to my meeting. He left earlier than me this morning and I didn't want him to worry about me being late. Race days are always hectic and I like to give him his space to get into 'the zone.'

Charles and I had met three years ago after Carlos had suffered a crash in Silverstone. I remember him as the insufferable teammate who was trying to get information on Carlos' status. He constantly pestered me and my partner about how Carlos was. I remember him being inconsolable, but after learning more about his past, I understood why.

Charles took crashes in this sport very seriously. He had suffered great loss at the hands of racing. I remember having to console him after learning Carlos had broken his arm. Our interaction had only lasted 3 hours.

I didn't think we would have talked much after that, unless on an as needed basis. I was surprised to say the least, when he showed up a few days later at the medical offices requesting some bandaids. After giving them to him, he insisted he take me to dinner as a thank you for dealing with him and Carlos. I don't think he ever really needed me to get a bandaid, I was sure his team would have had one, but I thank god everyday for bringing him into my life.

Weaving through the crowd, I finally made it to the FIA offices and I took my seat at the meeting, apologizing for my lateness. The team was debriefing the weather for the day and how concerned they were that the rain would result in possible issues. Spa was always known for raining during GP weekend, which was dangerous for the drivers. I swallowed harshly at the thought of Charles being in danger during these wet conditions. The FIA corporate team decided they would be on standby for possibly cancelling the race.

As the meeting concluded, everyone was free until the race begun. I placed my stuff in my locker and headed over to hospitality for some much needed caffeine. There wasn't really anyone around, so I was quickly able to grab my iced latte. As I was putting some oat milk into my latte I felt a pair of hands snake around my waist. I instantly knew who it was the way his cedar wood cologne filled my nostrils.

"Charlieeee, someone could see us! There are cameras everywhere. What are you doing?" He looked around us before he spun me around to face him.

"I have been looking all over for you fleur, but then I knew you'd be here for your daily coffee. I just wanted a quick good luck kiss before the race. I'm sorry I had to leave so early this morning, Fred needed us to come review data."

Charles and I'd relationship was very low-key, mainly because it was frowned upon for FIA employees to be dating drivers. While it wasn't forbidden, and our bosses both knew about it, the public did not. We never officially went public with our relationship as we wanted to keep it private, me moreso than Charles. I had worked incredibly hard as a women in medicine, landing my dream job in Formula One. I didn't want anyone judging me for dating a driver and getting in the 'easy way.' I appreciated Charles understanding this, although it was very difficult for him be so secretive about me.
