*6k words...this is a long one rightfully so... it gets graphic so be warned. sorry for typos i write fast and then don't even bother checking but u get the gist
I don't bother speaking as Onyx drives down the highway towards the city. My mind is in a catatonic state ever sine we found Casey missing.
At first I tried to convince myself that maybe she just went to see her friends because after three weeks she was bored of the countryside and if I'm being honest it sounds a lot like her.
She isn't responding to any of my messages, but that's also not unlike her.
"Mav." Onyx says from the seat next to me, his phone pinned to his ear. "Is Casey at the house?"
"Why would she be here?" I hear Mav say from the other end.
Onyx hangs up without an explanation and although Maverick and I are in an iffy place since we fucked, I don't think he deserved that.
For all we know Casey is just being a teenager. I have to like for that.
Onyx proceeds to do the same thing with Dame and Kai, asking and getting the same response.
I didn't expect them to know and deep down I guess I should be grateful she didn't show up there. That would mean she's in trouble and that would be bad.
"Onyx, it might be ok. You said it yourself that your mom's place is off the beaten track." I say, resting my hand on his tense shoulder. It causes him to deflate a little, but the worry in his eyes is still there.
"I know. I just need to make sure."
I can understand that. None of the brothers know Casey that well other than she means the world to me, and I wouldn't survive if anything happened to her. That makes her important to them too.
She's a good kid who deserves so much better than the life that was dealt to her.
The city comes into view as Onyx rounds a bend, and I'm a little shocked we made it back in record time. Onyx broke every law imaginable, but the brothers seem to have the cops on the DL so I guess I shouldn't be that surprised.
"We should check my apartment first." I say to Onyx as I whip out my phone to shoot off a few texts to the others.
"No—she knows that would be too dangerous. Do you know where her friends live? She could be there."
"I don't want to put a target on their back by involving them." I say letting out a sigh and feeling defeated.
"I don't think anyone would go for Casey's friends to get to you, but if you're really concerned, we can go to the apartment." He replies.
"No, no. You're right. Head east on Butler Ave. We can cut through Shepard's Park. Her friend Abigail lives there." I say loading the general direction into my phone.
Lilah: Can you guys hit up a kid named Jon? He lives on Parkview–another friend of Casey's
Dame: on it.
I take a deep breath trying to calm my the nerves that seem to be firing at an unhealthy rate under my skin.
"Dame and Kai are heading downtown to check another friend. There are the only two I can think of her going to."
Onyx doesn't say anything, he simply nods in response. A part of me wants to go back to how we were at his mom's house with no worries at all, playing a life I don't think we could ever live. It saddens me to see the loss of the once carefree Onyx.
