The sirens wailed through the streets of Seattle, a familiar sound to both the residents and the first responders racing to the scene. Among them was Y/N, a dedicated firefighter known for his bravery and quick thinking. As the fire truck screeched to a halt in front of the burning apartment complex, Y/N's adrenaline surged. This was what he lived for – the chance to make a difference, to save lives.

As he geared up, Y/N's mind briefly flickered to his friend, Lexie Grey. They had met at Joe's bar a few months ago, bonding over their high-stress jobs and shared love of obscure medical trivia. Lexie's photographic memory had made her an unbeatable trivia partner, and their friendship had quickly blossomed. Y/N smiled at the memory of their last coffee date, where Lexie had regaled him with stories of her latest surgeries.

Pushing personal thoughts aside, Y/N focused on the task at hand. Flames licked at the windows of the upper floors, and smoke billowed into the night sky. Without hesitation, he rushed into the building with his team. The heat was intense, the smoke thick and choking. But there were still people trapped inside, and Y/N was determined to get them out.

As he ascended the stairs, the building groaned ominously. Y/N pushed forward, guiding a young couple to safety. Just as he turned to make another sweep of the floor, a thunderous crack echoed through the hallway. Before he could react, a section of the ceiling collapsed, pinning him beneath the debris.

Pain exploded through his body, and darkness crept at the edges of his vision. The last thing Y/N remembered was the crackle of his radio and the distant voices of his teammates calling his name.

Across town at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, Dr. Lexie Grey was just finishing up a long shift in the ER. She was looking forward to meeting Y/N for their planned movie night, a much-needed break from the hospital's chaos. But as she was about to leave, the emergency doors burst open, and a flurry of activity filled the room.

"Multiple casualties coming in from a structure fire," a nurse called out. "First one's a firefighter, severe crush injuries and possible internal bleeding."

Lexie's heart dropped. She knew Y/N was on shift tonight. With growing dread, she rushed to meet the incoming gurney. Her worst fears were confirmed when she saw Y/N's unconscious form, his face partially obscured by an oxygen mask.

"Y/N!" she gasped, her professional demeanour momentarily cracking. Forcing herself to focus, she turned to the paramedics. "What's his status?"

"BP's dropping, crush injuries to the chest and abdomen, possible pneumothorax," one of them rattled off. "He was pinned under debris for at least ten minutes before we could extract him."

Lexie's mind raced, piecing together the information and formulating a plan. "Let's get him to OR 2 stat. Page Dr. Hunt and prepare for emergency surgery."

As they wheeled Y/N into the operating room, Lexie fought to keep her emotions in check. She couldn't let her personal feelings interfere with the surgery. She scrubbed in quickly, her movements precise and practised. As she entered the OR, the gravity of Y/N's condition became clear.

"Multiple rib fractures, collapsed lung, and... there's significant internal bleeding," Lexie announced, her voice steady despite the turmoil inside. "We need to stop the haemorrhage and reinflate the lung immediately."

For hours, Lexie worked tirelessly, her hands moving with skill and precision. She navigated the complexities of Y/N's injuries, repairing damaged blood vessels and carefully reinflating his collapsed lung. Throughout the procedure, she silently willed her friend to pull through, drawing on every ounce of her medical expertise.
