Chapter 3

Remembering he had a game account to boost that night, Lu Yao didn't want to waste any more time with Huang Li and his gang.

Huang Li, infuriated by Lin Gejie's earlier tirade, was also seething with anger.

Raindrops began to fall, and the two groups clashed again in the drizzle.

Seeing Lin Gejie being beaten back by Huang Li, Lu Yao pulled him over to shield him.

He caught Huang Li's incoming punch, pulled him hard, and threw him to the ground, splashing water in the alley.

Lu Yao noticed a baseball bat in a nearby trash heap. He grabbed it and handed it to Lin Gejie. "If anyone tries to hit you, swing this wildly. That way, they can't get close."

Realizing that protecting himself would help Lu Yao, Lin Gejie started swinging the bat madly.

Seeing Lin Gejie's frenzy, Huang Li's lackeys realized they couldn't handle him and all focused on Lu Yao instead.

With Lin Gejie secured, Lu Yao could fight without holding back.

He was agile and far more skilled than Huang Li and his brute-force lackeys.

As Lu Yao's punches landed on Huang Li and his gang, Lin Gejie winced in sympathy for them.

Even after being beaten to the ground, Huang Li refused to admit defeat, threatening, "Lu Yao, you'll pay for this. This isn't over."

Seeing Lu Yao frown, Huang Li thought he was about to continue hitting him. He scrambled up and fled the alley in a panic.

Seeing Huang Li run off, his lackeys quickly followed suit.

After Huang Li's gang fled, Lin Gejie asked Lu Yao, who was still frowning, "Yao Ge, they're gone. What are you thinking about?"

Lu Yao replied with a hint of confusion, "Did you hear something strange just now?"

Lin Gejie scratched his head. "No, Yao Ge. Let's go. It looks like the rain is getting heavier."

As they reached the alley's entrance, Lu Yao's ears twitched. He turned around and walked towards a discarded cardboard box deep in the alley.

Confused, Lin Gejie followed him.

Lu Yao moved some items off the box and opened it. Inside, a beautiful American Shorthair kitten with black fishbone markings was curled up in the corner.

The bottom of the box was soaked from the rain, and the kitten was meowing softly in discomfort.

Lin Gejie peeked in and said, "Yao Ge, it's a kitten. It looks only about two or three months old."

Having cats at his grandmother's house, Lin Gejie knew a bit about them.

Startled by the presence of humans, the kitten quieted down and stared at Lu Yao with big, round, deep blue eyes.

The cold-faced boy looked at the kitten for a moment before averting his gaze as if conceding defeat.

Lu Yao glanced around, found a clean, dry cardboard box in the corner of the alley, and carefully moved the kitten into it.

Just as Lu Yao withdrew his hand, the kitten timidly stuck out its tongue and licked his pale wrist. Lu Yao couldn't help but smile and gently patted its head. After placing the box in a dry spot, he stood up and prepared to leave with Lin Gejie.

However, as soon as Lu Yao took a few steps, the kitten began meowing urgently. He frowned and, feeling uneasy, returned to the box. Seeing Lu Yao again, the kitten let out a happy meow, rolled around in the box, and acted adorably, seemingly trying to win his affection.
