For once she was actually on her phone, staring at the notification from instagram.

(walker.scobell) has requested to follow you.

Not only that, but when she clicked on his profile he had almost 1.8 MILLION followers. MILLION. Her first assumption about him being some niche celebrity only loved by teen girls was thrown out the window. This guy was big.

She clicked the accept button, following him back.

Her mom came down the stairs, talking briskly on the phone.

"No I don't understand, David. I thought you said they signed all the papers last month."

Her father's staticky voice yelled back through the phone. He didn't sound happy, like usual.

"Well I expect them signed and sent to my lawyer by tomorrow night. Do you hear me?" Her mom crossed her arm against her stomach. After another few seconds she clicked the phone off, sighing.

Sophia expected all the legal troubles to end with the divorce two months ago, but they obviously hadn't. If anything her dad was making it more difficult just to spite her poor mom.

He was now living in an apartment on the other side of town. Sophia visited once, but it was always so hard talking to him that she hadn't gone back yet. An occasional message came through from him saying how he 'missed and cared for his little girl.'

If that was true he wouldn't have had a secret second family on the side for who knows how long.

Shaking her head to clear the thoughts, she got up from the stool, giving her mom a quick hug before grabbing her shoes.

"I'm gonna go show the new neighbor around in town. Need me to grab anything when I'm out?"

Her mom smiled, reaching over to kiss her forehead. "It's all good sweetie. The girl's name is Leena, right?"

"Oh yeah, but actually—"

A knock on the door interrupted her, and she hopped to answer it, still pulling on her converse as she opened it.

Walker stood awkwardly on the other side, dressed in a light blue tee with his hands shoved in the pockets of his jeans.

"Hey."

"Hey Walker, this is my mom." Sophia motioned behind her and Walker waved a polite greeting. Her mom stepped forward to shake his hand.

"I'm Mrs. Foster, but please, call me Megan."

"Thanks Mrs. Foster—I mean Megan."

Sophia finally got her shoe on, popping her head up. "Oh I forgot my phone, hold on." She ran back to the kitchen, her mom in tow. She had a look on her face that Sophia knew all too well.
