After a few days of planning and packing, the crew flew out to NYC. They had been there for just about 24 hours now, and as the sun set they began to put on their costumes. It was Halloween.
Sophia stepped out from the bathroom and into the hotel room she was sharing with Leah and Dior. She thought her costume was pretty clever, having thrown it together last minute.
"Okay how's this?"
They both looked at her like she was joking. Dior tried and failed to cover the smile spreading on her face. "Who are YOU supposed to be?"
"Rory Gilmore."
Sophia did a little spin, showing off her sweater and flared jeans, complete with a headband. "I think it's cute...right?"
Leah burst out laughing, the makeup palette in her hand in danger of falling to the floor. "Sophia you innocent thing, this is not that type of party. Wear something fun, c'mon!"
She pulled the headband off her head. "This is literally all I have. What? Do I need to be wearing like, fishnets and a tube top to be let in?!"
Dior shook her head, pulling her over to the vanity. "No no no, you just need to look a little cutesy is all. Plus you'd be dying from heat in that sweater while stuffed in a room with a bunch of people."
She dug through her and Leah's suitcases, pulling out some clothes and accessories. "Try these!" She pushed Sophia back into the bathroom, shutting the door behind her.
It was a green corset top, white skirt, and a variety of gold jewelry. She slipped it on, finally seeing Dior's vision.
"Is this supposed to be tinker bell??" She yelled through the door, pulling on the stockings.
"We'll get you wings on our way there!" Dior called back to her.
Sophia stepped out of the bathroom, getting gasps from both the other girls. "Stop, it's perfect!" Leah exclaimed.
They finished getting ready within the next few minutes, Sophia adding a bit of green glitter to her eyes as a finishing touch. Dior was a gender bent Jack Sparrow, and Leah had on possibly the cutest pink ballerina costume ever.
They ran down to the lobby, where the boys were already waiting for them. Charlie jumped up from the chair, dressed in a full suit complete with shades and a fake blaster.
"Oooh men in black! Nice." Dior commented. Aryan's costume earned exasperated groans from the girls, Leah slapping her hand to her forehead.
"Why would you wear that?"
"Uh, because it's adorable." He said, showing off his white button up, white pants, and unicorn horn headband.
"Favorite costume of the night." Sophia giggled.
And then there was Walker. Sophia almost choked.
This could not be happening right now.
He wore dark green pants, a half unbuttoned emerald green shirt, and crooked green hat shaped like a sailboat. It had a red feather in it. He was Peter Pan.
"Sophia, girl. Your eye is twitching like crazy." Dior nudged her.
"It's nothing."
Leah giggled next to her. "If we had known he was Peter Pan we would've packed a different costume for you."
Yeah, like they definitely hadn't known.
Walker was looking anywhere but at her, scratching the side of his neck.
"In my defense, I thought you'd be some sort of nerd character." He said.
Dior giggled. "Oh she tried. But me and Leah are always one step ahead." They fist bumped, and Sophia held her face in her hands, trying and failing to hide the embarrassment.
So long to the girls night with no boy drama.
They started their walk to the party. It was in someone's penthouse apartment about 3 blocks away. Sophia couldn't help but tilt her head back to look around, the towering skyscrapers dotted with lights now that it was dark out.
"Sorry about the costume drama."
Walker caught up to her, matching her pace.
"It's fine. It's just a costume." She hated how good he looked in the green button up, not wanting to turn her head because she knew she'd stare.
"How are...how are you doing?" Walker prodded, making it very obvious that it was a desperate stab at conversation.
"Oh I'm fine." Sophia shrugged. "Just working."
He nodded. "You do that a lot."
She glanced at him for a split second, following everyone into the costume store to buy her wings. "How else am I supposed to get better?" She responded matter of factly.
Walker and her waited by the door, Dior running ahead to find wings. "I don't know." He said slowly. "But I'm glad you're taking a break. That's all."
She didn't say anything, and the pair waited while the others bought wings for Sophia and a sword for Dior.
"Okay okay, ready. Here, Soph." Dior gave her the green tinted wings, sliding her own sword into her belt loop. "Let's go!"
They all resumed the short walk to the party, reaching the building and rushing into the elevator.
Sophia reached behind her back, struggling to clip the wings onto her corset.
"Stupid thing." She muttered under her breath. Aryan reached out to help.
"Sophia, do you want-"
Walker stepped in front of him. "Here, let me."
Before she could protest he grabbed the wings, clipping them onto her top. His fingertips grazed her back, sending shivers down her spine.
"Thanks." She said stiffly.
"Mhm."
The doors dinged as they arrived, and as they slid open the loud music and buzz of conversation hit them full force. They stepped out into the penthouse. Leah cheered.
"Let's go gang!" Charlie yelled. Oh boy.
