Her and Walker didn't talk the next day. Or the day after that. Every time she could feel him glancing at her, she turned away.
She wanted to be angry so bad for what he said. But the more she thought about it, the more she realized that maybe he was right. She was hiding behind her past. Behind things that didn't need to define her.
She could define herself.
What she was hanging onto was the fact that without him, she wouldn't have been here. All of her success came from him. Not her own actions, her own ideas. How was she supposed to take control of this new life when she wasn't the one to put herself there?
It had always been Walker.
And now she had pushed him away. What would she do now that she ruined everything. And over what? Some dumb misunderstanding?
Maybe she really had changed. And if she had, he probably wanted nothing to do with her. She had to keep going, just on her own. Had to prove herself. Had to define her own success.
——— 3 months into filming ———
Every day that crept closer to her scene with Walker was like a knife to the stomach.
She still showed up to set daily, without fail. There was no more pitying herself because of Leah, or whoever it was Walker chose to hang out with. If she was the one who chose to be alone, then he wouldn't have any influence over her mood.
She had moved her seat to a more secluded corner, now that they were doing work in a studio warehouse and not outside. Almost all of the time was spent marking and making notes in her script.
Sometimes it was her own lines, sometimes it was others. What did they do good? Where could they have done better? Details details details. She was going to be independent and successful all on her own. She didn't need help.
She didn't need anyone.
"Hey girl, how're you doing?"
It was Leah. She sank to the ground next to Sophia, leaning on the wall. Her fingers fidgeted with all the rings on her hands, and Sophia realized they must be filming Circe's Island right now.
She stopped scribbling with her pencil, the absence of the sound making the silence uncomfortable.
"I'm good." She responded politely. "How's filming?"
Leah shrugged. "So so. Everyone's been in a bit of a slump recently. We've had to reshoot scenes so many times. I can tell Walker's getting frustrated."
Sophia couldn't help but stiffen at the mention of his name. She played it off with a nod. "That's too bad. I hope you guys figure it out."
