hi everyone <3 a couple things about this one before we get into it.

-first of all, this has a trigger warning for miscarriage.

-secondly, this discusses the brazillian eras tour shows only in the context of the extreme heat wave. as we all know, this was not the only thing that taylor experienced that weekend. while i do not want to erase that tragedy, i am choosing to not address this so as to not romanticize the loss of a beautiful girl's life.

this is one of my favorites so i hope you all love it as much as i do <3

Travis always keeps a vase of fresh flowers perched on the counter of the kitchen island whenever Taylor is in Kansas City. He knows that the added pop of color is something that always makes her happy. Likewise, he always puts on an essential oil diffuser. Taylor likes her home to smell like vanilla and cinnamon around Christmastime and like flowers and fresh fruit in the summer. Since she's started spending lots of time with him, his bathroom counter has become littered with her skincare and makeup products. He always makes sure to keep the cupboard stocked with her favorite chocolates and the freezer with her favorite ice cream. Now, at the foot of the king-sized bed, there's a fluffy blanket that's always folded there, because Taylor runs cold at night. The once-barren nightstand on her side of the bed is now adorned with a framed picture of the two of them, a jar of her favorite goat's milk lotion, and a few stray hair ties.

All of those changes were easy enough to make. His life is only enhanced by the feminine presence she brings to the table. One change he hadn't been anticipating, though, was just how much he'd be worrying about her, any time that she wasn't around. Of course she has to travel. It's part of her job; it's part of her life. But god, he feels like a piece of himself wants to crumble and fall apart each time that she steps on that plane. He can't protect her from afar, and there's so many scary things in the world that could hurt her.

He tries his best to conceal those anxieties from Taylor. She's got enough she needs to worry about as is. But he knows that she's fully aware of it. One of the things she's done to help combat it is getting him an extra phone. She'd promised him that only two people have the number: herself and Tree. If there's ever an emergency, they will call him; that's the deal. He tries to keep it with him at all times. At football, it's on the bench. When he sleeps, it's on his nightstand. She knows that she can call him at absolutely any time of the day or night and he'll do everything in his power to answer.

It's a system that works for them. And on several occasions, he's been glad that they put it into place.

As Taylor lowers down on the lift from the Eras Tour stage, she hangs her head. Tonight was hard. Really hard. Before she even steps off of the platform, her dresser is taking her fringed jacket off of her body and handing her a water bottle, which she gladly accepts. Tree is standing only a few feet away with a wet washcloth, which she presses to the back of Taylor's neck. "You doing okay?"

"No," the singer says. It's rare that she'll admit to not being okay, but right now, there's no way to conceal it. "I nearly passed out up there." Her legs are still shaking and her head hurts like hell.

"We're going to get you into a cold shower, okay?" Tree says. "I know you don't usually like the stadium showers, but it needs to happen quickly."

"Yeah, yeah, that's fine," Taylor nods, too weak to protest anything right now. A cold shower sounds like exactly what she needs. The heat was too extreme. She's sure that she probably should have pulled the plug and postponed the concert, both for her own safety and for that of everyone else in that stadium. Not only that, but she felt so off-kilter all night. She was focused on the heat and not on the show. Something nags at her, telling her that she had a bad night. That she didn't give those people what they deserved, especially because they came out to see her in spite of the heat.
