Taylor and Travis have been clinging to each other all night. There hasn't been a single second where they haven't been touching, holding each other and each staring in the other's eyes, having some sort of secretive and wordless conversation. That's all rightfully so, Andy Reid muses with a smile. It is their wedding day, after all. He'd have been more concerned if they weren't attached at the hip.
The ceremony in the late afternoon was beautiful, officiated by Bradley Cooper, a close friend of the couple. Jason was Travis's best man, and Blake Lively was the maid of honor. The sun had shone down, perfect weather in the backyard of Holiday House, a spot which Taylor insisted on getting married, calling it her favorite place in the whole wide world. It really was perfect.
Now, all of the guests have turned up at a local yacht club with a beautiful ballroom for a reception that's equally as grand and sentimental. Problem is, Andy doesn't know very many people here. Sure, some of his players are here. A lot of the team turned up, as the matter of fact, making it a bit of a reunion during the off-season. A lot of the retired guys came as well. It's been great to see them all and catch up. But also, a lot of the people are Taylor's friends, people who seem far too glamorous for him, in all honesty. There's lots of faces who he's seen on his television screen, but would've never imagined actually meeting in person. So, he's doing a lot of sitting at his table and speaking with his wife.
That's all perfectly fine with him. Tammy is one of his favorite people in the world. Probably his favorite, actually. He can only hope that Taylor and Travis's relationship will continue to progress in the way that his has. Even after all these years, he's still just so happy. He knows that marrying Tammy was the greatest decision that he's ever made in his life.
They're mid-conversation when someone sits down at the table beside them. They're the only ones there right now. Most of the young people have gotten up and made their way to the dance floor. Even some of the older guests, after getting a few drinks in them from the open bar, have discarded their heels and are twirling about. Though he's not above a slow dance with his wife, Andy's far too old to be up and jumping around for the entire evening.
"You looked like you could use some company over here," the man says, shuffling into the chair. Andy's eyes meet Scott Swift's, and they both smile. "It's good to see you, man. Both of you."
"Good to see you too," Andy nods, grinning at his old friend. "It was a beautiful wedding. Taylor looks really happy."
"She is really happy," Scott confirms. "It's all you could ever want for your kid, you know? That kind of happiness. I'm really glad Travis is the one who's bringing it to her."
Andy squezes Tammy's hand. Tammy has seen Travis in all phases since he was drafted, maturing into a far wiser man than he once was. "He's a great guy... but you already know that."
"I do," Scott nods, "and I understand that you're a major person to thank for that. He speaks very highly of you, Andy."
Suddenly, a memory flickers through the coach's mind. One he hasn't thought of in quite some time, has never told anyone, just as he'd promised. But enough time has passed. They can all laugh about it now. So, "Did those two ever tell you about their first date?"
Scott raises an eyebrow. "Not beyond that Taylor went to Kansas City and he took her out to dinner and... allegedly... both of them knew that very night that they were going to get married someday. Though they didn't share that detail until far later."
Andy laughs. "You never heard that I walked in on them?"
The other man's eyes widen. "This doesn't sound like something I need to hear any more of. She may be all grown up, but it is my daughter, after all."
