something crazy

Travis stands eagerly beneath the stage, shifting his weight from one foot to another. Taylor's just played the second of three shows in Las Vegas. It's his second tour as her boyfriend now, he's been to more shows than he can count, but that doesn't change how amazing she is in his eyes. It's probably... no, certainly something that will never change. She's just a superhuman force from the very second that she steps onto that stage. The woman who he loves so much... she's still there, deep below the surface, but it's as though she's overtaken by her powers and she snaps into a new mode, a side of her that he has never needed to unlock when it's just the two of them.

Travis is sure that that's a good thing. It means that she's entirely comfortable with him, and always has been, since the very day they met. She doesn't need to rehearse and polish her every move, doesn't need to perform around him.

His fingers are wrapped tightly around the stems of some tulips, packaged up in brown paper and twine. He grins as the last notes of the show play over the stadium speakers and the hydraulic lift lowers his girl beneath the stage. The man stands with open arms and the woman runs right into them.

"Great show, baby," he says, stroking her hair as she giggles into his chest. "I'll never get tired of hearing you play those songs, you know?" The new album that she's touring is filled with songs that she wrote for him and Travis is so very proud of that. He also happens to think that, regardless, it's the best album she's ever released. And he tells her that at every chance he gets. Taylor squeezes him closer before she pulls away and then: "These are for you."

She only smirks at him, accepting the tulips into her grasp. "Travis. Babe... they're gorgeous, but it's literally just like... a random show. It's not a special occasion. You didn't have to get me anything."

He spreads his palm across her back, his skin touching hers just above the top hemline of her bodysuit as he lightly rubs circles and traces her spine up and down. "I know I didn't have to, but I wanted to. 'Cause you're doing this show so many times, and you know... you get flowers for the special ones. The opening and the closing... but you do the show so many times in between then and you do it just as well. So, you deserve to be celebrated for every show. You deserve to get flowers on those nights too."

She only smiles at him in disbelief, pressing a kiss against his lips. "I love you."

"I love you too, superstar," Travis says with a grin as they walk back to the dressing room, their fingers laced together, fitting like two pieces of a puzzle. "You know... there's thousands and thousands of people out there that all love you. But I'm the luckiest guy in the whole world, 'cause I'm the one who gets to come home from the stadium with you and hop in the shower with you and cuddle you as you go to sleep."

"Mmmm," she hums, "and I'd burn any of them to keep you warm."

Back in the hotel, they're up late. They always are. It takes Taylor several hours to come down from the adrenaline of performing for a whole stadium, tens of thousands of people at her fingertips. It's nearly 3:00 in the morning. Taylor's hair is wet as she rests her head against Travis's bare chest. He doesn't mind. The comforter is warm over their entwined bodies. Everything is quiet and they're all cuddled up and it's really just perfect.

"Taylor..." Travis says suddenly, taking a deep breath, "do you want to do something crazy?"

He doesn't know what comes over him to make the thought come into his head, but he somehow knows with absolute certainty that it's the right time.

There's a twinkle sparkling sweetly in her eye as she looks up at him, so absolutely beautiful. Her skin is soft and her is face free of makeup. Just the way that he likes to see her.
