hi hi hi! it feels like it has been a long time since i have published a one shot so i just wanted to check in with a little life update i guess. i have a little over one month left of life in england before i am moving back home and i am definitely ready to go back... but also trying to make the most of the time here. i have a few west end shows and a few concerts lined up which are pretty much my two favorite things ever, and a few visitors coming too. i am also still doing my school work of course and starting to apply for jobs for once i am home- terrifying lol. and most of you probably know i have a few other books too- a collab book on graciesstars with fearlesslyfolklore who is one of my favorite writers and favorite friends and i am so lucky she lets me write with her and learn from her, and a book called 'again' on my own profile as well that i have recently promised myself i am going to finish after taking some time away from. so... i have a few things on my plate, i guess haha. all of this is to say- one shots may be less frequent in the next few months, but do not worry- i love writing these one shots and have no plans to quit any time soon :) sending you all love and now that you've listened to everything i had to say, enjoy a very mediocre one shot that i don't even know if i like xoxo

She digs the heel of her cowgirl boot into the ground as she strums the final chord of 'Jolene.' Cheers echo through the room, drunk people dancing on the floor, sticky from spilled vodka crans and tequila sodas. Travis's eyes are locked on her- the beautiful singer with the curly hair and the guitar.

"Y'all, we've got another half an hour that we're playing here tonight, and we're taking requests, so come on up, toss a couple dollars in our bucket, and let me know what you want to hear." She speaks the words into the microphone, a thick Nashville drawl to her voice.

Travis smiles, his fingers curling around his wallet. He's got some cash in there... but right when he's about to push his way to the front to make a request, someone else beats him to it. Taylor and the others in her band jump right into a Shania Twain song.

The requests flow steadily for the next few songs, and when the half hour is almost up, Travis knows he has to be assertive. He finds his way to the front of the crowd and plants his feet right in front of the singer. He pulls a hundred dollar bill out of his wallet and holds it firmly in his hand.

She sees it, and he knows it, from the way that he makes eye contact and nods.

Taylor doesn't usually look that closely at people in the audience. It's just always the same tourists and things. The man though... he's hard to miss. He has to be almost six and a half feet tall, and he's alone. Those aren't usually the sorts of guys to push up to the stage. When they make eye contact, her heart flutters. He's handsome.

"This guy's got a request," she announces at the end of her song. "I think we've got time for one last song, huh?" The others nod, so Taylor reaches out to collect the money, leaning away from the microphone and speaking just to him. "What do you wanna hear, cowboy?"

"You know 'Landslide?'" he asks.

The woman only nods, a smirk on her face as she turns around to talk to the band for a moment, then leaning in towards the microphone, perched in a stand at the front of a stage. "Alright folks, this last song goes out to the handsome cowboy right in the front row who requested my absolute favorite song." She winks at Travis, whose cheeks turn pink and a grin spreads across his face.

After the song wraps up, Taylor would normally just pack up and get ready to head home. Tonight, though... for some reason, something's telling her to hop down from the stage and go talk to the guy who is still standing there, even when the rest of the crowd has dispersed, gone back to the bar for another drink or left to go next door and hang out on the rooftop over there. It's a nice night for that, after all.
