[Days Later!]

I was still trying to process what they both were saying. Like, how does bhuti even get the authority to kick us out of our home because as far as I know, there hasn't been any Will-reading for Dad's assets so that house remains Dad's.

Me: "Mah. There was no reading of Dad's Will right? So how can he 'throw us out' nje??"

Mom: "Yes, your father's will hasn't been released but the title deed of the house is in your brother's name."

Me: "What?!"

Mom: "Your father and I were young back then, trying to get out of our toxic lives so he was forced by certain circumstances to register for the house under your brother's name. As we worked and got successful, we just never had the time or opportunity to change the title deed. Plus it's not like we knew the future." she shrugs. Okay, I understand her but now what are we going to do?!

Me: "I understand Mah. I'm just worried about what will happen to that house. It is our home, a house we grew up in."

Mah: "I know, I know love." she hugs me.

Me: "He can not sell it, Mah." I cry. So apparently my brother threw us out of our family home last week and I'm only being told now because Mom just heard from our neighbor that he is selling the house.

Lifa: "I will ask my uncle to help, he will have a plan."

Mah: "I really don't know how can I ever thank you enough."

Lifa: "We are family Mah." they hug.

Mah: "Let me not keep you guys. I will see y'all when you come back." oh yeah, it is the day of my checkup {rolls eyes}.

Lifa: "Let's go, baby." he helps me up from the couch and we leave.

*******

Dr Ndamase: "It's good to see you again Mrs." I give him a faint smile.

Lifa: "It's been a long week." I chose to ignore them this time. I just feel like sleeping so I get on the bed and lie down.

Lifa: "Baby?" I ignore him and close my eyes as my eyes get heavier.

When I wake up, there is no one in the room and I'm still at the hospital. I'm confused about all these machines I'm connected to, even my stomach is strapped with some belt that is also connected to the machine next to me. I press the panic button and a nurse walks in, after a few minutes.

Nurse: "Oh you are awake. I will go get your doctor." she walks out before I can even ask for a glass of water. I sigh laying back on the pillow and close my eyes.

Ndamase: "I thought you said she was awake?" I hear his voice which makes me sit up.

Me: "I am up. Why am I still here?"

Ndamase: "Your baby's heart rate was beating slow again so we had to admit you. As you can see, we have been monitoring both your blood pressure and the baby's heart rate since last night."

Me: "What?! I slept that long?!"

Dr Ndamase: "Yes. It's understandable, you're carrying a person."

Me: "Well how are we doing?"

Ndamase: "I'm afraid, I had to book you in for an emergency c-section in the next hour."

Me: "What?!"

Ndamase: "Your blood pressure seems to be not going down at all and that is very risky. As your blood pressure increases, less blood flows to the placenta. When the placenta doesn't get enough blood, the baby receives less oxygen and nutrients. That is what we are facing right now."

Me: "I want my husband."

Dr Ndamase: "He had an emergency to attend to but he shall be back soon. Whatever you need, let me know and I will get it for you."

Me: "I want ribs and chips." I tell him wiping my tears. He sighs.

Dr Ndamase: "How about I get you all that after your surgery?!" I start crying silently. Like is this man for real?! I'm just a pregnant lady who is hungry and in great need of food right now.

Me: "Ngilambile nje."

Nurse: "How about some yogurt in the meantime? The thing is, you can't have any solid foods before your surgery Mrs M."

Me: "Yoghurt is fine. Make sure it's the Mixed fruit flavor."

Nurse: "I will be back." she walks out. I glare at Lifa's friend before laying back down and closing my eyes.
