Ndlalifa Mhlongo.

I get out of the car in a rush and run inside the hospital. I'm sure these people think I'm some kind of madman but I don't really care. I budge into her ward and I find a nurse helping her place our baby on her chest. She smiles emotionally while rubbing our baby's back.

Nurse: "Oh good, daddy is here." my wife doesn't even spare me a look.

Me: "Hi. How are my people doing?" I ask the nurse.

Nurse: "Good so far. Our little fighter just needs to be breastfed to get all the necessary nutrients from momma. I will now be taking him back to the NICU, he will be brought back later."

Me: "You just said he is fine."

Nurse: "Yes but being in an incubator is a must for prematurely born babies. You will see him later on." She takes the baby and leaves the room, leaving me with my wife.

Me: "Baby, I'm sorry." She ignores me and continues tying her gown slowly, she can't seem to tie the right knot and I'm scared to even offer help.

Me: "Mawabafana, I am really sorry. I was supposed to keep you updated but I was all caught up in the crisis I was in."

Noma: "A crisis more important than your wife going to give birth to your baby through a c-section?"

Me: "No. I thought I was going to finish early but I didn't."

Noma: "Whatever Ndlalifa. Can you please get out or shut up because I would like to sleep. My whole body is in pain after hours of being under the knife!" she says with her voice breaking making me feel even worse. I seriously don't even want to stress her more with what I just came from.

Me: "Am I allowed to cuddle you until you are asleep at least?"

Noma: No. I don't even know where you've been and I have a newborn baby that can easily get infected with germs that may cause harm to his lungs."

Me: "I will go take a shower right now!" she rolls her eyes and lays back, closing her eyes.

After a lot of arguing about cuddling her, she finally let me and it was only after I asked Ndamase for a hospital gown.

Noma: "You still won't tell me where you've been?"

Me: "I will, just..."

Noma: "I think that's the least you could do for me after leaving me all alone here and missing your lastborn's birth."

Me: "Last born?!"

Noma: "Yes! I am not having any more kids." I nod.

Noma: "Now tell me where have you been?"

Me: "Malume was arrested."

Noma: "What?!"

Me: "Yes, apparently he was caught trying to kidnap your brother."

Noma: "I don't think I understand Ndlalifa. WHAT?!" she shouts and flinches making me panic.

Me: "Please don't strain yourself or move abruptly, uzozilimaza."

Noma: "My brother. Where is he?!"

Me: "Uhh..."

Noma: "Uh what?! What did he do now?!"

Me: "He sold the house and eloped with his girlfriend."

Noma: "This has got to be a joke!"

Me: "I'm sorry."  I press the panic button when she starts crying. I'm scared she will mess with her stitches right now.

Nurse: "You called?"

Me: "Can you please sedate her?"
