chapter twenty eight

SD: Hey, Lian. Feeling a bit jealous today. A friend of mine is all set with his girlfriend and might even get married soon with a baby on the way.

Me: Hey, SD. That’s a big step! Sometimes it’s odd seeing others so settled. Makes me wonder about my own future.

SD: Totally. It’s tough seeing everyone getting their act together while you’re still waiting.

Me: I know what you mean. I saw Rei and his girlfriend Liz recently. She’s this tall girl with a cute dimple. They’re so happy together.

SD: Liz sounds great. It’s weird how seeing happy couples makes you think about what you want for yourself.

Me: Exactly. It felt strange to want something like that. It’s like, where’s my moment?

SD: Yeah, seeing those moments can make you reflect on your own. But don’t lose hope. It’ll come.

Me: Thanks, SD. It helps to talk about it. I guess I just need to be patient.

SD: Definitely. Stay positive and keep your heart open. Good things come when you least expect them.

Me: True. Thanks for listening!

SD: Anytime. 😊 If you need to talk more, I’m here.

On my way to the Older Than Your Mama bookstore for my shift, I checked my phone and saw SD’s messages. His mention of a friend who seemed to have everything figured out with a girlfriend and possibly getting married soon instantly made sense.

It had to be Jay and Eunjoo.

The clue SD had casually dropped fit perfectly, especially with Eunjoo’s evident pregnancy.

It was like solving a puzzle with a missing piece suddenly snapping into place. I couldn’t help but smile, feeling as if SD was letting me in on who he really was.

It was a sweet realization, and somehow it made me feel even more connected to the mystery of him.

The bookstore buzzed with an unusual level of activity today. It seemed like every other person in town had decided to visit at once.

Kim Minsoo's mom must have noticed how overwhelmed I was, because she called him in to help. When he showed up, he looked both relieved and slightly stressed. I was grateful for the extra hands.

We worked together, helping customers and restocking shelves. In the rare quiet moments, Minsoo seemed eager to chat.

“So, are you going to Soodam and Hera’s party?” he asked during a brief lull.

“I hadn’t really thought about it,” I replied. “Why do you ask?”

Minsoo’s face brightened. “I was hoping you’d come. My band is playing, and it would mean a lot if you could see us perform.”

He hesitated, then added, “My mom’s not exactly supportive of my music. She thinks it’s a phase, you know? I really want her to see that this could be a future for me. Maybe if you see how good we are, you could tell her?”

I nodded, understanding his situation. “I’ll think about it. It sounds like it’s important to you.”

Minsoo looked relieved but seemed to have more on his mind. “Do you want to hear me play something?”

I was a bit surprised but curious. “Sure, if you don’t mind.”

He pulled out his guitar, Lars, from a nearby case. After tuning it, he began to play. The melody was soft yet powerful, and the song was filled with emotion. I watched him with genuine admiration.
