⚊ epilogue
The air was thick with excitement, the kind that only comes with knowing something big was about to happen. The school year was wrapping up, and with it, the final gathering of our group before we went our separate ways.
Minji had somehow convinced us to throw one last event, something to mark the end of this chapter of our lives.
It wasn’t a grand event—just a simple get-together in the park. But to me, it meant everything.
The laughter and chatter filled the air as I looked around at my friends, each of them with their unique quirks and personalities that had somehow meshed perfectly together over the months.
The park was alive with the sounds of our group, and the vibrant energy was infectious. I could see the sun dipping lower in the sky, casting a warm glow over everything.
The final event before we all part ways for the summer, and it felt like it was more than just a simple gathering—it was a celebration of how far we’d come.
In the middle of the park, Rei and Dongpyo were in the midst of a heated debate. Their faces were red, not from the sun, but from arguing over something that had started as a harmless discussion.
They were both gesturing wildly with their hands, each trying to outdo the other with their point.
“I’m telling you, it’s the best strategy!” Rei said, leaning forward with a fierce look in her eyes.
“Best strategy? You’re completely missing the point!” Dongpyo shot back, crossing his arms. “You’re way too focused on the details!”
I watched as they went back and forth, their arguments growing louder. At one point, Rei’s hand flung out, knocking over a cup of soda, and for a brief moment, the two of them stopped mid-sentence, staring at the spilled drink.
“Well,” Dongpyo said after a beat, “guess we’re not talking strategy anymore.”
Rei chuckled, brushing her hair out of her face. “Guess not.”
Nearby, Sunoo and Kiara were a picture of tranquility in the midst of the chaos. They were sitting on a bench, legs crossed, their matching yellow outfits making them look like a pair of sunshine.
Sunoo was leaning in, his voice soft as he whispered something to Kiara. She laughed quietly, her eyes sparkling with that calm yet unshakable energy that always made people feel at ease.
“I swear, you always know how to make me laugh,” Kiara said, reaching over to poke Sunoo’s arm lightly.
Sunoo smiled, that easygoing grin that always made him seem like he was floating through life without a care in the world.
“It’s a gift,” he replied with a wink. “I’ve been practicing.”
Kiara rolled her eyes affectionately, but I could see the warmth in her gaze as she nudged him with her shoulder. They were like two peas in a pod, always comfortable, always content. I couldn’t help but smile at how perfect they seemed for each other, a picture of peaceful harmony amidst the madness of the world around them.
And then, as if on cue, I heard a burst of laughter from behind me.
Turning around, I found Heeseung gently teasing Sunhee, his arm draped across her shoulders. Sunhee, ever the free spirit, was attempting to tickle him back, but Heeseung was too quick for her.
“You’re too fast for me!” she exclaimed, laughing breathlessly.
“You should know by now that I’m always one step ahead,” Heeseung replied with a sly grin.
