I was five years old when it happened. In our world we had  magical creatures, but I was just a plain little girl. I had tan skin with blond hair and blue eyes.

I was at the neighbor's house. Their home was near a graveyard. We were playing magical tag. If one of us got tagged we become a magical creature.

However, I wasn't paying very much attention. Then one of my friends started chasing me. I began to run and slid under a gap in the fence to get away. Little did I know, I actually had slid under the fence separating the house from the graveyard.

My mother had told me not to go there, or bad things would happen. Suddenly everything was under a shadow. I watched as my friends screamed and ran from me. I tried to ask what was wrong but I couldn't open my mouth. I don't know what happened but I think I attacked the kids running from me.

The worst part is I think I actually caught one because when I was in control again everyone was inside and my hands were covered in blood.

Except now my normal small hands with their chewed-on nails were now big talons with feathers growing from the back! That's when I noticed the sirens. I knew that sound they drove past my house enough for me to know that something happened. Something bad.

I don't know why but I ran and I heard gunshots hitting the graveyard fence as I scrambled through the gap. A strong pain pierced my arm but I keeped running. I came to a tree and hid behind it.

My arm was bleeding. I frantically remembered what my mom did when I scraped my knee hiking, and I tore the sleeve  of my shirt. Droplets of water landed on the fabric. That's when I noticed the hot tears running down my face.

I flinched and let out a whimper as the tear soaked rag touched my wound. I wrapped it around my arm and watched as the rag got stained with blood.

My skin was a tad darker than normal. I had huge talons on my hands and feet. That's when I felt something protruding out of my shoulder blades. I twisted my head to look at it and what I found shocked me.

Large feathery wings stuck out of my back. I tried to think of what had wings like this. But before I could come to a conclusion I heard someone approaching.

I pressed my back against a tree as the labored breathing came closer. I felt a hand land on my shoulder. I closed my eyes preparing to be hurt but the pain never came. Instead I heard a soft raspy masculine voice.
