announcing the new baby

The aroma of roast chicken and herbs fills our cozy kitchen as I scramble to keep Taylor and Nico entertained. Demi sits at the small children's table, her little fingers busy working on a crayon masterpiece that looks suspiciously like a mess. I glance at the clock. My parents and Charlie's parents will be here soon, and I can already feel the flutter of nerves in my stomach.

"Okay, kiddos!" I call out, trying to keep my voice steady. "Let's play a game! How about a little round of peek-a-boo?"

"Peek-a-boo!" Taylor giggles and hides her face behind a stuffed bunny, while Nico claps his hands in delight.

Just then, Charlie walks in, a grin spreading across his face. "Hey, superstar! Need some help here?"

"Yes, please!" I sigh, grateful for his presence. "Can you keep an eye on the twins? I need to get the table set before everyone arrives, and this little one," I nod toward Demi, who is now trying to eat the crayons, "is being a handful."

"Got it. Here, you two," Charlie scoops up the twins, each nestled in his arms, "who wants to go for a ride on Daddy's shoulders?"

"Me, me!" Taylor beams, and I can't help but smile.

"Okay, let's go!" he laughs, carrying them around the room. I can hear their little giggles, and for a moment, I feel the pressure ease off my shoulders.

As I set the table, my stomach flips with excitement and a hint of anxiety. I need to announce the pregnancy at dinner, and I hope everyone will be as thrilled as I am.

"Harper!" Charlie calls from the living room. "Cecily and Noah are here!"

"Perfect! Just what we need!" I mutter to myself, finishing up the last of the plates. I shuffle into the living room with a cheerful grin as Cecily and Noah walk in, holding their little Leo.

"Hey, girl!" Cecily calls out, her green eyes sparkling. "Wow, it looks like a circus in here!"

"Tell me about it," I laugh. "But it's the fun kind, right?"

"Absolutely!" She sets Leo down, and he instantly makes a beeline for his cousins.

"Where's Zoe?" I ask, glancing around. Just as I do, the door swings open again.

"Surprise!" Zoe yells, jumping into the room.

"Geez, Zoe," I chuckle. "You nearly scared me to death!"

"I know! That's the point!" she giggles, high-fiving Demi.

As the night unfolds and everyone settles in, the atmosphere fills with laughter and anticipation. Once I see that all are gathered around, I tap my glass gently, gathering everyone's attention.

"Um, everyone?" My voice wavers, but I push through. "I have an announcement."

Charlie grins at me, eyes sparkling.

"We're having another baby!"

Cheers erupt, and my heart races with joy as hugs ensue.

"Congratulations!" Noah beams, pulling me into a tight embrace.

"Seriously, you guys are amazing! Right, Cecily?" Adrien adds with a proud smile.

Cecily's eyes light up, and then she bursts out laughing, "Well, I was actually going to announce something of my own!"

"What?!" I gasp, my mind racing. "No way!"

"Yes way!" she grins. "I'm pregnant, too! Can you believe this?"

"No! This is incredible!" I laugh, feeling tears of joy prick at my eyes. "Just like last time! This is so amazing, Cecily!"

"Team 'Pregnancy at the Same Time' again!" she teases, throwing her arm around me.

Demi, caught up in the excitement, looks back and forth between us. "Baby! More babies!" she exclaims, clapping her hands.

"Yes, honey! More babies!" I giggle, holding Cecily's hand.

As the celebration turns into joyful chaos, I can't help but feel a wave of gratitude sweep over me. In the midst of diapers and cries and toddler drama, there's an unbreakable bond of love surrounding us—a bond that's only getting stronger.
