crying baby

I'm exhausted. I haven't slept more than a couple of hours at a time in the past three months since giving birth to our adorable baby girl, Demi. Charlie has been taking care of me and Demi, but the lack of sleep is starting to wear on me, and I can tell it's taking a toll on our relationship.

Just this morning, Charlie and I got into a fight about something small, but it felt like the straw that broke the camel's back. I can't even remember what it was about now. All I know is that we were both on edge, and the tension in the room was palpable.

And then, as if on cue, Demi starts crying. Charlie and I lock eyes for a brief moment before rushing over to soothe her. The fight immediately dissipates as we tend to our daughter's needs.

"Hey, hey, it's okay, Demi," Charlie coos, rocking her gently in his arms. "Daddy's here."

I watch as Charlie's face softens, and I can't help but feel a pang of love for him. Despite our exhaustion and the stress of taking care of a new baby, he's been an incredible partner and father.

"I'm sorry," I say quietly, approaching him. "I don't know what came over me earlier. I'm just so tired."

Charlie looks up at me and gives me a small smile. "It's okay. I know this is hard. We're both adjusting."

We stand there for a moment, taking in the sight of our beautiful daughter. I lean my head on Charlie's shoulder, and he wraps his arm around me, pulling me close.

"We got this," he says, kissing the top of my head.

"Yeah, we do," I reply, feeling a sense of peace wash over me.

We stand there for a few more minutes, soaking in the moment before Demi starts to fuss again. Charlie hands her to me, and I begin nursing her.

"How about we order some food?" Charlie suggests. "I think we could both use a break."

I nod in agreement, and he takes out his phone to order from our favorite restaurant. As we wait for the food to arrive, we snuggle on the couch, watching our daughter sleep.

"I love you," Charlie says, looking over at me.

"I love you too," I reply, smiling.

The past few months have been a whirlwind, but in this moment, I feel grateful for the love and support we have in each other. We may be exhausted, but we're in this together. And that's all that matters.

The doorbell rings, signaling the arrival of our food. Charlie gets up to answer it, and I can't help but admire him from behind. Despite the bags under his eyes and the messy hair, he's still the most handsome man I've ever seen.

As he sets the food down on the coffee table, I notice a tiredness in his eyes that I haven't seen before. I know we're both running on empty, but I also know that we'll make it through this together.

We eat our food in relative silence, enjoying the quiet moment before Demi wakes up again. As we finish, Charlie looks over at me and smiles.

"Thank you," he says.

"For what?" I ask, confused.

"For being my partner, my rock, my everything," he replies, taking my hand in his.

Tears spring to my eyes, and I lean into him, feeling his warmth and love envelop me.

"Thank you for being mine," I say, resting my head on his shoulder.

As we sit there, I can't help but feel grateful for this little family we've created. Despite the challenges and exhaustion, I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. This is our new normal, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
