Everyone silently looked at the pair but not for long when Rudransh gave them a cold look.
He gently guided Isha to the entrance, but before they could enter, Maya stepped forward, signaling to Janhvi with a subtle nod. Janhvi, catching her mother's cue, dashed toward the kitchen, leaving Isha feeling uneasy. Are they upset with me? Isha wondered, her heart sinking at the thought. She stared at the floor, unsure of what to say or do.
Just as Isha was about to explain herself, Janhvi returned, breathless, carrying a small, ornate silver pot filled with rice. She placed it at the entrance, right in front of Isha. Isha looked up in surprise, her eyes wide with confusion.
Maya smiled warmly at her. "Isha, dear, please push the kalash with your right foot," she instructed, her tone gentle and welcoming.
Before Isha could react, Janhvi peeked out from behind her mother, wiggling her eyebrows mischievously. "Come on, hone wali Bhabhi," she teased, her voice full of playful excitement.
Isha was stunned. She glanced at Rudransh, seeking confirmation, and found him already looking at her. He gave her a small nod. Hesitantly, Isha lifted her foot and gently pushed the kalash, watching as the rice spilled out onto the floor. It was a traditional gesture, one that symbolized her first step into the family.
As soon as the ritual was completed, Maya stepped forward to perform the aarti. She carefully circled the flame in front of Isha and Rudransh, blessing them both before applying a tilak to their foreheads. The significance of the moment wasn't lost on Isha; she felt an overwhelming sense of warmth and belonging, something she hadn't expected.
Rudransh didn't hesitate as he scooped Isha into his arms just before she could step into the house. The sudden action startled her, her eyes wide with shock as she looked around, unsure of what to make of the situation. Rudransh's expression remained unreadable, and he didn't spare anyone a glance as he carried her through the hallways. The guests and even his family didn't dare to follow; everyone knew better than to intrude on his private space.
Rudransh's part of the mansion was secluded, a place where even the staff rarely ventured. His personal gym and private hallway were designed to keep the world at bay. He despised anyone touching his things, even the faintest noise seemed to agitate him. But as he gently placed Isha on his bed, that same irritation he felt toward others was absent. Instead, he felt an odd sense of satisfaction, a calmness that surprised even him.
Isha, still processing everything, looked up at him with a mix of confusion and guilt. She had felt like a burden ever since they returned from the police station. The weight of everything that had happened was pressing down on her, making her feel responsible for all the chaos Rudransh had to endure.
"You'll stay here until the guest room is cleaned," Rudransh said, his tone firm yet lacking the coldness he usually reserved for others. He didn't mention that he preferred her staying in his room, but he knew it might make her uncomfortable, so he refrained from saying anything more.
Before Isha could respond, he turned and went to freshen up. When he came out of the bathroom, he found her fast asleep. He approached her quietly, his gaze softening as he watched her rest. Without realizing it, he gently adjusted her position on the bed, making sure she was comfortable. Normally, the idea of someone touching his things, let alone his bed, would irk him. But with Isha, it was different. She was different.
For the first time, he didn't mind sharing his space. In fact, he found himself welcoming it, almost needing her presence there. The thought of her being so close, yet unaware of how deeply he felt for her, gnawed at him. But he didn't want to push her, not now, not when she was already burdened with so much stress.
After making sure she was comfortable, Rudransh left the room, closing the door quietly behind him. As he descended the stairs, the atmosphere in the mansion changed. The guests, who had been chatting amongst themselves, fell silent as he entered the dining room. His presence commanded respect, and everyone's attention was immediately on him.
He walked to the head of the table and sat down, his gaze cold and focused. Ishaan, who had been quietly observing him, straightened up when Rudransh's eyes landed on him.
"Bring dinner for her after she wakes up," Rudransh instructed, his tone leaving no room for argument. Ishaan nodded.
He sat at the head table, focusing on his own plate. Janhvi poked her father and signaled with her eyes. He looked at his wife, who was also looking at him, signaling toward Rudransh. He sighed, feeling stuck between his queen and his princess once again. Looking toward his son, whose coldness seemed almost unnatural, he cleared his throat, catching the attention of everyone except Rudransh—but he knew Rudransh was listening.
"Who is the girl, Rudransh?" he asked. Rudransh looked up and casually replied, leaving everyone shocked—some choked, others forgot to breathe, and one even fell off their chair.
"Your soon-to-be daughter-in-law," Rudransh Singh Rajput finally announced. They had all thought he was asexual.
Janhvi did a fist bump in her chair and looked at her father with a victorious smile, but he still kept his gaze on Rudransh. He wanted to test something.
"And what if we don't agree?" Rudransh's jaw clenched as he looked up, staring dead into the eyes of everyone in the room. He then fixed his gaze on his father and mother.
"You asked me to find a wife for myself, and I found one, so I don't think it matters who wants what." The atmosphere thickened with tension, as if a war might break out, but his mother intervened, knowing both father and son were stubborn.
"So, do we start the preparations then?" she asked. Janhvi answered with a loud "Yes!" but fell silent when she met her brother's gaze. Rudransh continued eating silently, while the other family members began discussing preparations, giggling quietly.
A group of soldiers, who now had some leverage over their brother, stood up and went to the living room to make their plan. One of them came back and dragged Ishaan along, who was confused as to what was happening. He couldn't believe how Rudransh had spoken to his father like that.
