Samira woke up to the soft warmth of the morning sun pouring through the large windows of her bedroom. She stretched lazily, the covers falling from her shoulders, and smiled to herself as she remembered what day it was. One whole year with Chris—her heart swelled at the thought. But before she could savor the peaceful moment, the door burst open and in came Sadiah, a whirlwind of energy as always. He clambered up onto her bed and plopped down in her lap, his little hands already moving as he signed excitedly.
"The living room looks like a garden, mama!" He signed, his big brown eyes wide with excitement.
Samira raised an eyebrow, confused. "A garden?" Before she could sign anything else, Sadiah jumped off the bed and bolted toward the door, eager for her to follow.
When he realized she wasn't moving, he spun back around, his tiny feet thudding against the floor as he ran back to her and tugged on her hand, signing with urgency, "Come see!"
Smiling at his enthusiasm, Samira climbed out of bed, slipping into her slippers as she followed him down the hallway and into the living room. The second she stepped through the doorway, her jaw dropped. The room was transformed. Red roses—hundreds of them—filled every available surface, vases upon vases of the deep red flowers turning their entire living space into something magical.
Her hand flew to her mouth as her eyes watered, overwhelmed by the beauty in front of her. She walked slowly through the room, her fingers grazing over the soft petals as she took it all in. Each bouquet was perfectly arranged, the rich scent of the roses filling the air around her. The sheer effort it must've taken... she was stunned. Chris had gone all out.
