Inseparable

As we settled down at a table during lunch, the cafeteria buzzed with whispers and conversations.

"All good?" Carter asked sitting next to me while Liam and Miles sat across from us. I nodded my head.

He smiled at me. I love his smile. I love his everything. When we were in the middle of eating while the boys talked about something I wasn't paying attention to, a girl suddenly stopped in front of our table.

Miles tensed immediately while Liam seemed uncomfortable as he stood up and waved at her. "Hey, Lana."

Lana. So this must be the girl, Liam and Miles fought for.

Lana smiled at him. "I haven't seen you today,I thought you skipped." She chuckled and her eyes darted to me. "Who's this?" She asked as she turned to Liam with raised eyebrows.

"That's Carter's best friend."

She frowned and narrowed her eyes at him, "So Carter's best friend can sit with you but I can't. I thought we were something Liam."

Liam immediately froze. His cheek reddened and he looked towards Carter as if asking for help. I understood that they probably didn't want her to sit with us because Miles still had feelings for her and he didn't like seeing her with Liam.

"We are Lana." Liam started but she raised two fingers telling him to be quiet. "No, it's over. It's obvious for you I'm just a girl who's pants you want to get into."

Liam's eyes widened and he shook his head again and again. "That's not true Lana, you know it, I like you. Really like you and I want us to become something."

I suddenly felt uncomfortable witnessing all of this.

"Yeah, sure." Lana scoffed and walked away.

Liam looked at all of us with sad eyes and you could see the hurt on his face. "I'm sorry buddy." Miles replied but Liam just glared at him. "Sorry?" He snorted. "You probably wanted this." He walked away without a word.

Miles sighed and glanced at Carter, "Enjoyed the show?"

Carter just shrugged and stared at me. "I'm sorry." He said with his eyes but I just mirrored his action. There was nothing he had to be sorry for.

After school I was waiting for my dad when Carter offered to take me home. "No thanks but my dad's on the way, I don't want to trouble him for no reason so maybe tomorrow you can drop me."

He smiled and nodded. We waited for a while before my dad's car approached, I kissed Carter's cheek in goodbye and waved running towards my dad's car. When I looked from the window Carter was still frozen, his whole face red. He was staring at me with an emotion in his eyes I couldn't determine but smiled before I was out of the view.

Then I realized...

I just kissed him for the first time. He always kisses my forehead and the top of my head but I've never kissed him on the face before. I blushed.

"You okay?" Lincoln asked. I nodded my head, he shook his head and stared for a while before he mumbled something that felt like "I'm gonna kill him."
