The day was cool, with a crisp breeze sweeping through the castle grounds. Hogwarts loomed large and ancient, its stone walls with history and secrets. The corridors were alive with the sounds of students shuffling between classes, their laughter echoing off the walls. Among them was a girl with bright eyes and a heart that felt too big for her chest, and a boy who carried a darkness that matched his Slytherin robes.
Her name was Y/N, and his name was Mattheo. They couldn't have been more different on the surface–she, a Ravenclaw with an insatiable curiosity for life; he, a Slytherin who kept his emotions buried deep, like treasures no one could ever hope to find. But despite their differences, they had found each other, and in that connection, they had discovered a world that made sense.
It was late in the afternoon when they found themselves by the Black Lake, a place they often retreated to when they wanted to escape the watchful eyes of the castle. The sun was beginning its descent, casting a golden glow across the water, making it shimmer like a sea of molten gold.
Y/N sat on the grass, her knees pulled up to her chest, watching the sun dip lower in the sky. Mattheo stood a few feet away, his hands in his pockets, staring out at the horizon with a furrowed brow. He seemed lost in thought, distant, as if he were miles away despite standing right there beside her.
"Mattheo," Y/N called softly, her voice breaking the silence. "What's on your mind?"
He glanced at her, his brown eyes filled with a mix of emotions that she couldn't quite decipher. There was something heavy in his gaze, something that had been weighing on him for days now.
"Y/N," he began, his voice low, almost a whisper. "What would you do if... if everything you had was taken away? If the world you knew just...crumbled?"
Y/N's brow furrowed in concern. She had always known that Mattheo carried the weight of his family's expectations, the shadow of his bloodline, but she had never seen him like this–so vulnerable, so uncertain.
"I'd rebuild," she said simply, offering him a small smile. "I'd make a new world out of the pieces, and I'd fill it with the things that mattered–like love, and laughter, and people I care about."
Mattheo looked at her, his expression softening at her words. She had always been his light in the darkness, the one who reminded him that there was more to life than duty and legacy.
"And what if you couldn't rebuild? He pressed his voice tinged with desperation. "What if...what if you lost me?"
Y/N's heart ached at the thought, but she refused to let fear control her. She reached out, taking his hand in hers, her touch grounding him in the moment.
"Mattheo," she said firmly, "I don't need a perfect life or a house of gold. All I need is you. If you're by my side, we can face anything. We'll build our own world, and it does matter if its not perfect or grand. What matters is that it's ours."
Mattheo looked down at her, feeling the sincerity in her words. He had always been afraid that his darkness would consume her, that he would drag her down with him. But here she was, standing by his side, ready to face whatever came their way.
"I don't deserve you," he whispered, his voice thick with emotion.
Y/N shook her head, squeezing his hand tighter. "Don't say that. You're worth more than you know, Mattheo. And I'm not going anywhere."
In that moment, as the sun finally dipped below the horizon, casting the world in twilight, Mattheo realized that he had found his home in her. It wasn't a house of gold, but it was something far more valuable. It was a place where he could be himself, where he could be vulnerable without fear of judgment.
And as they stood there by the Black Lake, hand in hand, they both knew that whatever the future held, they would face it together. They didn't need riches or glory. All they needed was each other, and the love that would carry them through even the darkest of times.
