I didn't expect to find her like this.

I was wandering through the castle late at night, trying to clear my head after a long day, when I saw her–Y/N- sitting on the edge of one of the courtyards, staring up at the sky. There was something off about her, though. She was laughing at herself softly, her eyes hazy, completely lost in her own world.

I stopped in my tracks, narrowing my eyes. She looked...different. Not in the way she usually did, confident and sharp-witted. This was...something else.

I moved closer, staying in the shadows as I observed her. Her movements were slow and exaggerated, like she was swimming through air. She took a deep breath, then let out another laugh, this time louder, as if she was having a conversation with the stars.

"What the hell...?"

I speed out from behind the pillar, curiosity overtaking me. She didn't even notice me until I was right in front of her, and when she finally did, her face lit up like she'd just seen the most incredible thing.

"Mattheo!" she said, her voice lilting in a way that told me she wasn't completely present. Her eyes were glassy, her smile wide and unrestrained. "Look! The stars are...so bright tonight."

I crouched down in front of her, growing. "Y/N...are you high?"

She giggled, nodding dramatically. "Maybe...just a little bit." She made a pinching motion with her fingers, like she was trying to show me how small that "little bit" was.

I sighed, shaking my head, but couldn't help the small smirk that tugged at my lips. Seeing her like this–so carefree, so different–was unexpected. Normally, she was so composed, so sharp. But right now, she was like a completely different person.

"Where did you even get it?" I asked, leaving back on my heels as I looked her over, making sure she was okay. She didn't seem to be in any danger, just...floating.

She grinned lazily, leaning her head back. "Some Ravenclaw girls. They said it would help me relax." She emphasized the last word like it was the best thing in the world, her head tilting back toward the sky. "And, you know what? They were so right. I've never felt this...free."

I let out a low chuckle, shaking my head again. "You look ridiculous."

She stuck her tongue out at me, and for a second, I was stunned by how adorable she looked. She wasn't guarded like usual, wasn't keeping up that wall she always had around her. It was just...her. The real Y/N, laughing and completely unfiltered.

"You're kinda cute when you're not overthinking everything," I muttered without really thinking, watching her sway slightly where she sat.

She blinked at me, her expression shifting from playful to something softer. "You think I overthink things?" she asked, her voice quieter now, more vulnerable.

I hesitated for a second, caught off guard by the sudden shift in her tone. "I think you're always in control," I said carefully. "Like you've got this wall up. But right now...you're just you. No masks, no games."

She stared at me for a moment, and for the first time all night, her laughter faded. She seemed to be processing what I said, her brow furrowing slightly as if she was trying to understand something deeper. Then, in the next breath, she smiled again–soft, genuine.

"I like being me around you," she said quietly, leaning her head on her knees. "You're easy to be around."

My chest tightened at her words. I wasn't used to her being this open, this raw. It caught me off guard, and for a moment, I didn't know how to respond.

She just shrugged, her smile still in place. "Maybe. But right now...I don't care."

I sighed, standing up and offering her my hand. "Come on, let's get you back before someone sees you like this."

She took my hand, her touch warm and soft, and pulled herself up, wobbling slightly on her feet. "Thanks, Mattheo," she said, her voice still dreamy, her eyes half-lidded as she looked up at me. "For taking care of me."

I couldn't help but smile. "Someone's gotta keep you out of trouble."
