Song Inspo: I'm Yours - Isabel Larosa

Word Count: 724

The dungeons of Hogwarts were dimly lit, shadows flickering across the cold stone walls as the Slytherin common room buzzed with life. Tonight was different from the usual quiet evenings; the room had been transformed for a party, a rare event among the notoriously private Slytherins. Green and silver banners draped across the ceiling, enchanted to shimmer in the low light, while music thumped rhythmically in the background. The air was thick with the scent of pumpkin juice and butterbeer, with the occasional hint of something stronger that had surely been smuggled in.

Mattheo Riddle stood off to the side, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed, his sharp brown eyes observing the room. He wasn't one for parties, usually preferring the solitude of the library or the Astronomy Tower smoking. But tonight, his friends had insisted, and so here he was, trying to mask his boredom as he watched the familiar faces of his housemates mingling.

He was about to slip away when something caught his eye–a flash of color in the sea of dark robes. Mattheo straightened, his gaze zeroing in on the source. A girl, standing near the fireplace, laughing at something one of her friends had said. She was new, or at least, he had never seen her before.

Her robes were standard Hogwarts attire, but she wore them differently. The green and silver tie was slightly loosened, and a lock of chestnut hair had escaped from her neatly done bun, framing her face in a way that made her look effortlessly graceful. Her eyes, bright and full of life, sparkled in the low light, and her laughter seemed to cut through the noise of the room, soft yet melodic. He couldn't look away.

For a moment, he simply stared, caught off guard by the intensity of the sudden feeling that washed over him. He wasn't used to this–a Slytherin's heart was supposed to be guarded, cautious. But here he was, standing rooted to the spot, his usual composure slipping as something unexplainable tugged at his chest. Was this what they called love at first sight?

He shook his head, trying to clear his thoughts. Ridiculous, he told himself. But even as he thought it, his feet betrayed him, moving closer to where she stood, as if drawn by some invisible force. The room seemed to blur around him, the noise fading into the background as he focused solely on her.

As he approached, her friend noticed him first, nudging the girl and whispering something in her ear. She turned, her eyes locking onto his, and for a brief second, everything else fell away. The world shrank to just the two of them. The young Riddle felt his heart skip a beat, an unfamiliar sensation for someone who prided himself on always being in control.

"Hi," he said, his voice coming out softer than he intended.

"Hi," she replied, her lips curing into a small, knowing smile, as if she could see right through him.

Mattheo felt a rush of emotions he couldn't quite place–excitement, nervousness, a strange kind of warmth that spread through his chest. He had faced down all manner of challenges at Hogwarts, but this–this was something different. This was someone who could unravel him with just a glance, and it both terrified and thrilled him.

"I'm Mattheo. Mattheo Riddle," he introduced himself, trying to regain some semblance of his usual confidence.

"I know who you are," she said, her smile widening slightly. "Everyone does."

He didn't know whether to be flattered or wary, but before he could respond, she extended her hand, her eyes never leaving his. "I'm Y/N."

Y/N. The name rolled through his mind, leaving an imprint. He took her hand, feeling the warmth that radiated off of her skin against his own, and for a split moment, all of his usual cynicism and caution melted away.

"Would you like to go for a walk?" he asked, surprising himself with the sudden boldness of the question.

She hesitated for a second before nodding. "I'd like that."

As they made their way through the crowd, out of the common room, Mattheo felt a strange sense of certainty settle over him. He didn't know where this night would lead, but as soon as they stepped into the quiet corridors of Hogwarts, he knew one thing for sure–this was only the beginning.
