Song: Drunk on Halloween - Wallows

Word Count: 818

The Slytherin common room was alive with excitement, the air thick in the hum of chatter and laughter. It was the night of the annual Halloween part, and everyone at Hogwarts knew that the Slytherins never failed at throwing the best Halloween parties–not one person was not planning on going. The castle was decked out with pumpkins, cobwebs, and an array of magical decorations that seemed to shimmer in the candlelight. Among the revelers were Y/N L/N and her best friend, Mattheo Riddle.

Mattheo and Y/N had been inseparable since their first year. They shared everything–secrets, dreams, and the occasional pranks on their fellow students. But tonight, as they mingled among the crowd, Mattheo felt a pang of something he couldn't quite ignore. It was a feeling he'd been trying to push aside for too long, but the sight of Y/N in her stunning costume–dressed as a pirate with her hair cascading in waves–was making it impossible.

Y/N was laughing with a group of friends when a tall, handsome Ravenclaw named Marcus Fawley approached. He had a confident stride and an easy smile, and from the moment he set his eyes on Y/n, it was clear he was interested.

Y/N watch from the edge of the crowd, his heart sinking as Marcus made his way over. He tried to ignore the growing knot in his stomach, but was no use. He could see Marcus leaning in, his hand casually brushing Y/N's arm as he spoke to her. Y/N, ever polite, smiled and engaged in conversation, but Mattheo couldn't shake the feeling of unease.

His fists clenched at his sides are Marcus' hand lingered on Y/N's arm. The knot in his stomach tightened, and without thinking, Mattheo pushed his way through the crowd. He reached Marcus and Lily just as Marcus was leaning in a little too close.

"Hey!" Mattheo said, his voice firm and edged with irritation. "I think it's time for you to back off."

Y/N's eyes widened, a mix of surprise and confusion crossing her face. "Matty, it's fine. Marcus was just talking to me."

Mattheo didn't back down, his gaze locked onto Marcus. "Yeah, well, I think he's done talking. Why don't you find someone else to bother?"

Marcus hesitated, then, with a dismissive shrug, he turned on his heel and walked away. The crowd seemed to exhale as the tension dissipated, and Y/N turned to Mattheo, her brow furrowed.

"Matty, what was that about?" she asked, her voice a mixture of curiosity, concern, and a hint of amusement.

Mattheo ran a hand through his messy hair, his heart pounding in his chest. "I just... I didn't like the way he was looking at you."

Y/N's expression softened, a small smile on her face, and placed a hand on his arm. "You don't have to do that. I can handle myself."

Mattheo swallowed hard, the weight of his feelings pressing down on him. "I know you can, love. But it's not just about that. It's... it's because I care about you."

Y/N's eyes widened in surprise. "Oh, Matty... I care about you too, but. What do you mean?"

Mattheo took a deep breath, trying to find the right words. "I've been trying to ignore it, but I can't anymore. I've always cared for you, Y/N. And more than just a friend, I want you to be mine. And seeing Marcus with you... it made me realize just how much I don't want to lose you... let alone having to share you."

Y/N's gaze softened, and she took a step close. "Matty, I had no idea you felt this way."

"I didn't want to ruin our friendship," He admitted, his voice trembling slightly. "But I guess I just couldn't stand the thought of someone else being close to you."

Hiding a smile on her face, Y/N reached out and took his hand, her touch warm and reassuring. "I had no idea you felt like this, but... I'm glad you told me."

Mattheo looked at her, his heart racing with hope. "So, what does this mean?"

Y/N smiled, her eyes shining with something he hadn't seen before. "It means we need to talk about it. Figure things out. I have to make sure you know what you're walking into when it comes to dating me."

Mattheo Riddle felt a surge of relief and happiness wash over him. For the first time that night, the knot in his stomach began to unravel. They stood there for a moment, hand in hand, admiring one another, the noise of the party fading into the background.

"I guess we should get back to the party," Y/N said with a playful grin, her hand still interlocked with his.

Mattheo chuckled, feeling lighter than he had felt in a long time. "Yeah, I suppose we should. I'm going to make sure that we are not interrupted the rest of the night. Just you and me."

Y/N laughed, her eyes sparkling with a mixture of excitement and affection. "Deal."

I am so ready for Halloween! I think I'm going to go as Poison Ivy or a soccer referee (but in a cute way, I promise). Choose for me?
