Song Inspo: The Way I Loved You - Taylor Swift
The sun set over Hogwarts, painting the sky in shades of amber and gold. Y/N sat by the Black Lake, her hands idly playing with the grass as she tried to find the words to make sense of her tangled thoughts.
He was perfect.
Jacob Thomas, the boy she'd been dating for three months, was everything anyone could ask for. Sweet, kind, dependable. He brought her flowers on random days, remembered her favorite books, and never failed to compliment her even when she felt her worst.
He was the kind of boy you could bring home to your family, the kind of boy who made you feel safe.
But he wasn't Mattheo.
Her heart ached as the thought of him—the boy with dark eyes that burned like embers, who could make her feel alive with a single look. Mattheo Riddle was chaos, intensity, a storm she could never quite outrun. And despite how much it hurt to love him, a part of her never stopped.
Jacob didn't make her angry. He didn't frustrate her with his recklessness or make her heart race with the way he smirked as if he knew every thought in her head. Jacob didn't kiss her like he needed her to breathe.
But that was the problem, wasn't it?
Jacob was perfect.
Mattheo was passion.
She closed her eyes, letting the memories wash over her.
--Flashback--
"I drive you crazy, don't I?" Mattheo has said once, leaning casually against the library table she'd been trying to study at.
"You have no idea," she'd snapped, glaring at him over her book.
But even then, there had been a smile tugging at her lips, one he'd notice instantly.
Mattheo had grinned, taking a seat beside her as if he belonged there. "Good. I'd hate to be boring."
--End of Flashback--
And he never was.
With Mattheo, every day felt like an adventure, every argument a spark that only deepened their connection. He infuriated her, challenged her, but he also made her feel more alive than she ever thought possible.
When he left, it was like losing a part of herself.
That's why she said yes to Jacob.
He was steady, dependable—everything Mattheo wasn't. Jacob didn't make her question her worth or cry herself to sleep wondering why love hurt so much. Jacob was good for her. Everyone said so.
But was she sat there by the lake, staring at the perfect calm water, Y/N couldn't help but feel the absence of the storm.
She missed it.
She missed him.
She missed the way Mattheo made her laugh until her sides ached, the way his voice softened when he called her "love", the way he could infuriate her one moment and leave her breathless the next.
Jacob's love was quiet, predictable. It was everything she thought she wanted.
But it wasn't the way she loved Mattheo.
And it never would be.
"Y/N?"
She looked up to see Jacob standing a few feet away, concern etched across his face.
"Hey," she said softly, forcing a smile.
"Are you okay?" he asked, stepping closer. "You seemed distracted at dinner."
"I'm fine," she lied, her chest tightening.
But as she looked into his warm, steady eyes, she knew the truth would haunt her. Jacob would always care for her, always love her in the gentle, unshakable way he did.
But she would never love him like that.
Because her heart still belonged to Mattheo Riddle—the boy who had stolen it in a whirlwind of fire and chaos, and the boy she wasn't sure she'd ever truly let go.
