TW: Torture (I'm sorry... It gets pretty graphical! If you're sensitive, you can just skip this and the next chapter. In chapter 33, I left a note explaining what happened.)
I opened my eyes. I was in a dark room that smelled like mold. There was nothing on the floor, not even a bed, just a dirty mattress and a bucket. Where was I?
My head was pulsing. I touched my jaw and startled from the pain. I was probably dreaming, this couldn't be real...
I started to breathe heavily. Whatever this was, I had to get out.
"Help!" I screamed. My voice sounded croaky and weak. "Help!" Tears started rolling down my cheeks. I couldn't breathe, I couldn't-
A man in a black uniform with a red logo entered the room. I thought he might rescue me, so I tried to get up, but he slapped me.
My cheek started stinging and burning like a fire.
"Here are the ground rules. You don't talk unless we let you, you do exactly as we say and what we say. And there's no point in screaming, no one will come help you" he grinned.
"Get up!" he shouted.
My legs were shaking and I hardly got up. I was so scared. What was this place? What was going to happen to me?
Two other men entered the room and grabbed my arms tightly. I groaned in pain as their nails pressed into my skin. I felt my heart beating in my stomach, my whole body shaking. I sobbed in silence.
They dragged me into a room filled with terrifying devices. It was dark, except for two lights above a chair with horrifying metal pieces on the side. What was this? Torture?
I tried to run, but they grabbed me tighter. One of them slapped me again, but this time, I almost didn't feel it. The adrenaline was rushing through my veins. My heart was beating faster than ever. I had to get out of there.
The pushed me in the chair and metal pieces wrapped around my arms, so I couldn't leave. I squirmed in fear, but they wrapped even tighter. I thought maybe if I was gonna be nice, they would let me go, so I stopped twisting in the chair and just sat there, breathing heavily and staring at them. There were screens with medical information next to me and a metal device above my head, which made me feel sick.
A man in a white coat entered the room.
"Well, well, well...if it isn't the special kid I heard so much about!" he said in a mocking voice.
"What?" I asked, then covered my mouth. Was the guy going to slap me for talking?
To my surprise, he didn't do anything.
"Well, know that you posses a very powerful superpower, Hannah".
How the hell did he know my name? And what superpower? This man was insane.
"And I want to understand it. As long as you work with me, I'll work with you and everything will be fine, I promise. Okay?"
The hell with being nice, this guy turned my stomach upside down. Every fiber of me wanted to run away, or spit on him or fight. I squirmed again in the chair.
"Let me go, you sick bastard!" I yelled.
The guys in the suits took a step forward, but the man stopped them by raising his hand.
"Let's try a short session, shall we?"
A short session of what?
The device above my head lowered and clipped to the sides of my forehead.
I felt an excruciating pain shoot through my body and screamed. Tears streamed down my face. How was I surviving this? I heard my screams echo and the sound of the machine ringing in my brain. My toes curled and my nails scratched the chair material. I smelled the blood and heard my screams and felt the pain, but it was almost as if I wasn't in my body anymore. I couldn't think straight, my mind felt like a blurry tornado. Did I just throw up? My lips were wet. The tears on my face felt hot. The pain shot again, harder than ever, if that was possible.
That's when I saw them, through my teary eyes. The Avengers. My heart jumped. They were saving me, I was going to be safe!
There were the same workers in black uniforms holding them and pushing them forward. They could still fight, right? They saw me. Then the pain hit me so hard I yelled my lungs out.
"HELP!!! HEEEEEELP MEEE!!" I bawled, hyperventilating.
"P...PLEEEASEEE...OWWWWW!!!!" I shrieked again. I couldn't see, the tears burned my eyes, but I tried to keep them open. I felt sick. I locked eyes with Bucky's blue ones.
They kept their heads down and left. My stomach twisted. They left me. They left me to die. They betrayed me.
