She lay down on the bed, unable to stop herself from thinking about him. “She is beautiful. Did he love her so deeply that he rejected me? But how could he, when she only entered his life two years ago? Should I tell him I’m his wife? He’s not a bad person, but he looks frightening when he's angry. He rejected me without even seeing me. No, I can’t confront him right now. If he finds out I’m his wife, he might throw me out of his office. I need to prove myself first, at least for Grandpa,” she thought, but interrupted by the phone ringing.

She glanced at her phone and answered.

“Hello, Uncle, how are you?”

“Cut the crap, Ava. Just tell me—did you meet him?”

“Yes, but I didn’t tell him the truth about who I am.”

“Yeah, and what did I expect? He hasn’t answered our calls in years, and when I come to Seoul to meet him, I had to face how his mother insulted us. Because of you, I’ve had to endure all of that. And now you’re telling me you didn’t tell him you’re his wife”

“Don’t worry, Uncle, I—”

He cut her off abruptly. “I’m not worried at all. I just want you to know one thing: we’re not going to take care of you for the rest of your life. We’ve done enough because my father entrusted your responsibility to me.” He ended the call without realizing how deeply his words hurt her.

Tears began to flow down her cheeks. She clutched the pillow tightly and sobbed uncontrollably. She cried for a while, and even as she drifted off to sleep, the sadness remained with her.

Next Day

He called her into his office, and she arrived ten minutes later. As she approached, she saw the same girl who had been with her husband the previous day leaving the office. Her heart shattered at the sight; she couldn't bear the thought of him with someone else. With heavy steps, she entered his office and stood silently in front of him.

When he noticed her presence, he saw her puffy eyes and the tears threatening to spill. Unable to hold back his concern.

“Are you okay? You don’t look well. It seems like you haven’t slept well.” he said, his voice filled with genuine concern.

“Why do you care?” she asked, her voice trembling with a mix of frustration and vulnerability.

“It’s not just about you. I need you to be at your best for work. If you don’t take care of yourself, it impacts the whole team. Who else is going to ensure everything runs smoothly?” he said, trying to keep his concern professional.

“Yeah, all you care about is work. You don’t care about anything else. This is all because of you,” she said, her eyes brimming with tears, her voice trembling with hurt.

“What do you mean? What did I do?” His voice was filled with confusion, his brows furrowing as he tried to understand.

“Because of you, I’m dealing with all this. Because of you, I have to tolerate all of this,” she continued, ignoring his question, her hands clenching into fists.

“But what did I do?” he asked again, his frustration evident, his voice rising slightly as he struggled to grasp her accusations.

“Nothing, forget it. Just forget it. I don’t care anymore. Do whatever you want,” she said, closing her eyes to control her tears.

“I don’t understand what you’re saying. If something’s wrong at home, leave it there. I can’t deal with this attitude. If you’re tired of work, you should just stay home,” he snapped, growing frustrated as he struggled to grasp why she was blaming him.

“Fine. Don’t worry. I won’t bother you anymore,” she replied, tears finally falling. She wiped them away harshly and left the office.

He was left alone, confused and overwhelmed by guilt.
