The sky outside was a deep shade of twilight as they left the office, while Taehyung and Ava sat comfortably in the front seats. The silence in the car was interrupted when Ava's stomach growled. She hadn't eaten since morning, as Taehyung had been occupied with meetings and had lunch outside, unaware that she hadn't eaten anything.
Ava’s face turned red when her stomach let out a loud growl. She looked up at Taehyung, feeling embarrassed. He gave her a kind smile, making her feel a bit better despite her discomfort. As she apologized, her words stumbled out.
"I guess we should get dinner before heading home, shall we?"
"No, it's fine. I'm not hungry, it’s just—"
He interrupted her. "I’m starving, alright?"
"Oh," she sighed, looking down at her lap, feeling a bit embarrassed.
"Got any place in mind?" he asked, glancing at her before turning his attention back to the road. "Or, we could go to Jimin's restaurant," he added.
"No, no. we can go somewhere else," she said, a trace of panic in her voice as she remembered Jimin’s awareness of her identity.
"Alright, alright, calm down," he chuckled at her reaction. "So, where do you want to go?"
After a moment’s thought, she suggested, "There’s this restaurant I visited with my colleagues last time. The jjamppong there was fantastic."
Taehyung’s eyes lit up at her interest, clearly pleased by her enthusiasm. He grinned and said, "Sounds great. Where is it?"
After a while, Taehyung and Ava stepped into the restaurant, It wasn’t cozy but had a simple, unique charm. Though Taehyung had never been to a place like this before but he didn’t mind, especially given the Ava's interest. She seemed genuinely excited, he offered a warm smile, even if the restaurant wasn’t exactly his style. As they waited for a table.
After a few moments, they found a couple of seats and settled in. Taehyung leaned in, his gaze soft and attentive as he listened to her describe her favorite dishes. “Let’s try two Jjamppong,” she suggested, and he nodded in agreement.
[Jjamppong is a spicy Korean-Chinese seafood noodle soup]
Two bowls of noodles arrived, steaming and fragrant. As Ava started eating her noodles, Taehyung looked at her with loving eyes. It was clear she was hungry. He glanced at the steaming bowl of noodles placed before him. They were too spicy for his taste, as he generally avoided spicy foods.
Taking a deep breath, Taehyung hesitated before picking up his chopsticks and taking a bite. The fiery heat immediately attacked his senses, causing his eyes to widen in shock and his face to flush a deep red. Despite the discomfort, he continued eating, each bite making his eyes water more. A tear finally slipped down his cheek. Ava, busy eating, looked up and noticed his distress.
"What happened?" she asked, her concern evident.
Taehyung met her gaze and tried to smile through the pain. "Oh, I'm fine. It's just really spicy," he said with an awkward chuckle.
"No, you're not fine. If it’s this spicy, why are you eating it?" she scolded him gently, her worry growing.
Taehyung put down his chopsticks and quickly drank a glass of water, then another. Ava stood up and rubbed his back soothingly. He took one last sip and set the glass back on the table.
"Are you okay?" she asked,"You should have told me you can't handle spicy food," she said, a bit upset. "It's my fault; I should know what you can eat. After all, you’re my hus—" She stopped abruptly, shocked by her own slip. "Did I just say you’re my husband? Oh no..." she thought
Taehyung looked at her, his chuckle breaking the awkward tension."I'm your what?" he said
"You’re—you're my boss," she stammered, then added with a nervous laugh, "Yeah, you're my boss. What else could you be?"
"Alright, alright, finish your noodles; they're getting cold," he said, gesturing to her bowl.
"Are you sure you’re okay?" she asked again, resuming her seat."Yes, I’m fine. Now, eat.
Once Ava finished her noodles, they left the restaurant and approached their car.
Taehyung started the engine but then stopped halfway. He glanced at Ava and said, "Stay in the car; I'll be back."
Ava, though puzzled, stayed in the passenger seat.
A few minutes later, Taehyung came back with two ice creams, grinning. He handed one to Ava. "I wasn't sure what your favorite flavor, so I chose mine."
"I like strawberry too," Ava replied with a smile.
Their car was soon filled with the sounds of their laughter and chatter as they savored their ice creams. Once they had finished, Taehyung started the car, and they drove off.
Ava gazed out of the passenger window, a serene smile playing on her lips."It’s amazing how peaceful it is out here," she said.
Taehyung glanced at her. "Yeah, sometimes you just need to escape from everything and take a moment to breathe," he replied.
A moment of comfortable silence stretched between them. A few minutes later, they arrived at Ava's building. Taehyung stopped the car in front of it.
They exchanged looks, and Taehyung spoke up, breaking the silence."So, see you at the office tomorrow," he said, his voice soft and gentle.
"Yeah, see you then," Ava replied. She got out of the car and turned to look at Taehyung through the open window.
"Eat something before going to bed; you didn’t eat much," she said, her voice tinged with concern and guilt.
"Don’t worry, I’ll take care of it," Taehyung assured her with a warm smile. "Now go on; it’s late."
Ava nodded and headed into the building. Taehyung drove away, a smile lingering on his face.
